About Videoclip
"Rabbit in Your Headlights" is a song by British electronic duo UNKLE, written by Radiohead's Thom Yorke and Josh Davis. It was the first single taken from the duo's 1998 album Psyence Fiction. The title of the song comes from a quote in the 1990 thriller movie Jacob's Ladder.
The song's music video, directed by Jonathan Glazer, premiered in November 1998. The critically acclaimed video won the MVPA's Best International Video of the Year Award in 1999. In 2006, Stylus Magazine ranked it Number #1# of the Top 100 Music Videos of All Time
The video uses a technique which Glazer would later use for the "A Song for the Lovers" video, being shot in real-time and allowing the diegetic sounds produced by objects and characters to be audible above the music. It differs from that video in that the music itself is non-diegetic.
It stars Denis Lavant as the main character, a middle aged man wearing a heavy parka who's walking along the middle of the road of a highly transited car tunnel. He appears to be out of his mind, mumbling and shouting incoherencies. Some of the cars honk at him and swerve out of his way. All of a sudden a car hits him from the side and he is left on the ground. The car continues its course without stopping or slowing down. The man lies on the ground and after a while stands up and starts walking again as if nothing had happened. Then another car hits him, this time the hit occurs straight on and sends him flying a couple of feet. A driver in a nearby car watches with contempt the man rolling on the street as he drives by. The man gets up again. A car swerves by and slows down alongside the man. The driver tries to talk to him and asks where is he going. The man pays no attention and continues walking and talking to himself. The driver soon tires of this and drives away. Another car hits him, and the man gets up almost instantly. The madness which apparently this man is suffering from gets more acute as he grabs his face and moves erratically. More accidents occur, some cars honk, some cars swerve out of the way, but none stop.
The man removes his parka and throws it on the ground. He is wearing nothing underneath and we see his chest covered with bruises and cuts. Then, as the song stops leaving just a piano playing, the man stops as well. He smiles and opens his arms in a crucifix-like position. A car is coming his way and makes no intention of stopping. The car hits the man, but instead of the man being thrown into the ground due to the force of the car, the car is destroyed as if the man was made of granite.
Videoclipul are un sens adînc şi dacă priveşti dincolo de imagine- e foarte ,,greoi”.
În opinia mea reflectă o filosofie cum oamenii ,,primesc” situaţiile din viaţa lor.
Ei pot decide să lase lucrurile, întîmplarile să le afecteze (lasaţi loviţi de masini) sau ei pot decide să se elibereze de toate suparările, necăjirile (haina), şi să realizeze că ei sunt liberi, şi că toată lumea înconjurătoare nu te poate controla, însă tu ai controlul asupra tuturor (in the end of videoclip).
Haina pe care şi-o dă jos reprezintă greutatea gîndurilor, frica,care-l apasă şi-i întunecă mintea, îl deprimă, îl frămîntă încît îl face să vorbească indignat şi supărat nişte aberaţii.
Atît de mult îl confunză încît, pur şi simplu, nu remarcă că printre mulţimea de oameni (maşini), fără scrupule, indiferenţi, care ar trece peste tine numai ca să-ş atingă scopurile sale meschine .....- totuşi vrea cineva să te ajute (aceasta este destul de vizibil în videoclip).
Acea haină îl face fragil la toate obstacolele (maşinele), care te lovesc de fiecare dată cînd te întorci sau te abaţi. Fiind lovit pentru prima dată, căzut la lungul drumului stă un timp nemişcat de parcă ar fi uimit de ceea ce i se întîmplă (prima lovitură în viaţă e cea mai dureroasă), după care se ridică şi îşi continuă calea (viaţa), fiind ignorat de cei din jur şi lovit iar, iar şi iar...............însă, după aceste lovituri (ale vieţii, soartei) îşi revine mai repede, fiind obişnuit şi resemnat cu acestea.
Imaginează-ţi că el după ce şi-a dat jos vesta ca şi cum s-ar elibera de umbra sa, i se iluminează mintea şi totul devine lucid, limpede. Desfăcîndu-şi mâniile într-o formă de cruce şi zîmbind discret pentru prima data, de parcă ar căpăta oarecare pace cu sine însuşi, îi dă forţă să-şi controleze întregul corp, devinind neînvins.
