1' ARSENAL IN FRONT! Incredible!! Thierry Henry strikes after just 58 seconds!! Fabregas worked his way to the right bye-line and pulled back for Henry, who stroked the ball into the bottom right corner. Superb stuff

39' Wonderful football from Arsenal, as Hleb plays a one-two with Rosicky and then belts the ball into the roof of the net. Sensational.

Ihaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa 0-3 !!!! :happy2:

49' Arsenal are sometimes accused of trying to walk the ball in, but they just have there! A sumptuous move ends up with Henry sliding Hleb through, who pulls back for Van Persie to slot home a simple finish. Brilliant.

Penalty Arsenal! Hahnemann brings Fabregas down and Henry will step up.

70' HENRY SCORES!! Fires it in off the bottom of the right-hand post, no chance Hahnemann!

Sublime Arsenal destroy Reading

Arsenal produced a sensational display of football, tearing Reading apart 4-0 to go fourth in the Premiership. Thierry Henry took less than a minute to open the scoring, before Alexander Hleb, Robin van Persie and an Henry penalty gave the scoreline a fittingly comprehensive look.

After a halting start to the season, Arsene Wenger's men have rediscovered their swagger and go fourth in the Premiership table, five points off the top.

A week after surrendering their 14-month unbeaten home record to Chelsea, Reading suffered another defeat at the Madejski Stadium, albeit amid less controversy than that caused by the injuries to Chelsea goalkeepers Petr Cech and Carlo Cudicini.

If the home side were looking for some time to settle into the game, they received absolutely none.

Cesc Fabregas broke to the right by-line in the opening seconds and pulled back for Henry to place a controlled first-time effort into the bottom-right corner.

The onslaught continued with Fabregas showing why he might be the Premiership's best passer and Van Persie enjoying himself.

However, the Dutchman squandered a good chance by going it alone when the Gunners were through three-on-two.

Seol Ki-Hyeon tested Jens Lehmann with a left-footed volley after the Arsenal keeper had flapped at a cross, but the visitors were soon down the other end.

Tomas Rosicky flicked a deft ball over the top for the marauding Justin Hoyte, who dragged a shot wide just before the half-hour.

A second goal seemed inevitable and finally came on 39 minutes, when Hleb played a brilliant one-two with Rosicky and thumped high into the net.

The Belarusian's development and increased confidence has been shown by his recent willingness to go for goal instead of always looking for an extra pass.

Arsene Wenger's sides are often accused of trying to walk it in, and that is exactly what they did on 49 minutes.

A brilliant move culminated with Henry slipping through Hleb, who pulled back a neat pass to give Van Persie a simple finish.

The rout was not over, and Henry doubled his tally from the penalty spot after Marcus Hahnemann pulled down Fabregas.

On any other day the Frenchman would have been considered lucky to see his effort ping in off the post, but so good was the Arsenal performance that Henry's in-off seemed entirely deliberate.

Wenger - Our pace made a big difference

on a convincing victory...
"Yes, I feel we had a good start. We were on a very good run and we were disappointed on Tuesday night in Moscow. We wanted a quick response to not drop our level of confidence. We came quickly with an early goal - a fantastic goal - and after that our movement, our technique, our pace made a big difference. Reading never gave up and they were dangerous on set pieces and crosses but overall we looked like we could always create something with our mobility and quick, coordinated movement."

on Fabregas justifying his long-term deal...
"He gave the right answer today. He's a great player and he will be greater, I believe. But especially there is a good understanding in midfield now. We are very mobile, very quick and of course he has a quick football brain."

on Rosicky's consistency...
"Rosicky is getting better in every game, I am very happy with his performances. We feel that physically he has adapted quicker than we expected him to."

on responding to the defeat in Moscow...
"You always worry because I have seen Reading here against Manchester United and Chelsea, and I know from experience that after a Champions League game it is always very tricky to go away from home. So I was of course concerned by the difficulty of the task today."

on Reading's performance...
"You could say that they left something in there [after the Chelsea game]. You can analyse whether it is down to our quality or the fact that they had something taken away pyschologically. It looked a little bit like that."

on five Premiership wins in a row...
"Recently if you take our performances we have beaten Watford, Charlton, Manchester United and now here. So it looks like we are capable of playing this kind of game but I felt today we played at a higher pace and with more mobility."

on the title race...
"Yes we knew we were under pressure because Manchester United won and Chelsea won yesterday, so we knew that today was a big day for us."

on how he will celebrate his birthday...
"As an aperitif, a little game on television. After, as a dessert, all the goals in Europe on television again!"

Carling Cup: West Bromwich Albion v Arsenal - Preview

"You've got to give Mr Wenger all the credit in the world,” explained Tony Mowbray, the new West Brom manager, ahead of this evening’s Carling Cup tie with Arsenal. “He hasn't got Chelsea's tens and tens of millions to go out and spend but it seems he's got the capability to pick a diamond off a beach of pebbles.

“He's used those capabilities to pick up players like Henry, Fabregas and Vieira. None of them were massive, massive money but are now world stars. He doesn't pick the finished article. He spots the raw talent and polishes it.”

The polishing process for Wenger’s brand new gemstones begins this evening at The Hawthorns.

The manager’s policy in this competition has changed in recent years. The formula has got a little more complicated. It is no longer: team = a couple of experienced professionals + the youth section. Now it is:  team = the bench from the previous Premiership game + a couple of seasoned players who need a game + the odd the first-team regular + the cream of the youth section.

That solution has served him well in the last three seasons. They have twice made the Semi-Finals and, in the other year, knocked out two Premiership sides before losing narrowly in front of 60,000 at Old Trafford. In that time, the likes of Cesc Fabregas, Robin van Persie, Philippe Senderos, Mathieu Flamini, Gael Clichy, Justin Hoyte and Emmanuel Eboue have all came through the hot-house education of the Carling Cup to make an impact in the first-team.

Far from the disrespecting this competition, Wenger has in fact entrusted Arsenal’s future to it.

“When you can use the Carling Cup as a factor of integration into the first team it is fantastic,” said the manager. “But you need to go through a few rounds to gain experience and confidence. That is why I was pleased we went through to the Semi-Final last year and I want us to go further this time.

“West Brom have a new manager and might give them a little bit more but I still think it will be down to the quality of our game and how well we do.

“We want to qualify for the next round of the Carling Cup. We want to go as far as we can. It's a competition I have never won in 10 years.

“Tonight, you will see Theo Walcott, Emanuel Adebayor and the other players who were on the bench on Sunday. The players I left behind, like Philippe Senderos, Denilson and Jeremie Aliadiere will play. Manuel Almunia will be in goal. Clichy will play of course so might someone who played against Reading, like Djourou maybe.”

Denilson is the stand out name among the youngsters. The acquisition of the Brazilian Under-19s captain was almost overlooked on transfer deadline as the William Gallas/Ashley Cole swap hogged the headlines. The elegant, combative midfielder has played only one Reserve League game but was chosen in the first-team squad for the trip to CSKA Moscow last week.

At the other end of the spectrum is Joe O’Cearuill. A tough-tackling centre back who was released by Leyton Orient and Watford without playing a first-team game. It would complete an incredible footballing journey should he feature this evening.

Somewhere in the middle is Matthew Connolly. The 19-year-old centre back supported Arsenal as a boy and grew just a few miles from the Club’s training ground. He was on the bench for two Carling Cup ties last season but did not get on. Having risen through the ranks he desperately wants some sort of first-team appearance on his CV.

Opportunity knocks for all of these and many other “rough diamonds” this evening. The question is: which ones will sparkle?

Manuel Almunia
Mart Poom
Philippe Senderos
Johan Djourou
Joe O’Cearuill
Matthew Connolly
Gael Clichy
Armand Traore
Mathieu Flamini
Alexandre Song
Denilson
Mark Randall
Jay Simpson
Theo Walcott
Emmanuel Adebayor
Jeremie Aliadiere

In sfirsit tineretul Arsenalului va avea ocazia sa-si arate potentialul si adevarata valoare.
Pronosticul meu la acest meciu este 1-3. Ashtept alte pareri
