One of the best players for Arsenal on Saturday, midfielder Andrey Arshavin was full of praise for Swansea City and goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny after the game.

Speaking on his official website after the game, the Russia International explained that the Gunners created chances but admitted that the visitors could have scored as well adding that he is happy with the debut of the new signings by him described as great players who now just need to fully understand the mechanism adopted by manager Arsene Wenger.

On what he told young Emmanuel Frimpong at the end of the first half, the 30-year old said that the 19-year old was not marking his man when Swansea won throw-ins resulting in the Arsenal midfield struggling to deal with the opposition.

Arshavin concluding by looking forward to next Tuesday’s away game in the Champions League against Borussia Dortmund, explaining that the Germans are a good side with young players who will surely not be easy to beat when the two teams face each other at the Signal Iduna Park.

On Saturday, Arshavin said:

    Today the Welsh club has shown confident football for a beginner. Swansea tried to play football. If at the beginning of the match they thought only about defending their goal, further into the match they tried to save the game. In the first half they performed a dangerous combination but our goalkeeper showed his skills.

    Today you saw the renewed Arsenal. Today we had the newcomers in the starting lineup as well as the subs. They looked good.

    But they need time to fully comply with the playing manner, the signature style of our team. They are the great players, and the sooner they join the team’s game the better.

    As for the game itself, we created some chances but our opponent also could have found the back of the net. We won. And it is great that we managed to win our first game in the championship this season. It was not easy. But it’s something to start with.

    [At the end of the first half] I asked Frimpong to play with a player during the throw ins, not to stand in the zone because it brought some confusion into the team’ game in the middle of the pitch.

    He was leaving the player, and our two central midfielders were left against three Swansea midfielders. I thought that it would be better for the team.

    It will be interesting for me to play against Borussia from Dortmund. It’s a good team with the talented young guys. On the one hand, it is difficult to play against them; on the other hand it is interesting.

Arsenal will be without the Welsh International captain Aaron Ramsey for their trip to Germany in the clubs first Champions League group game against Borussia Dortmund after suffering an ankle injury in training.

It is yet another blow to the Arsenal squad in terms of absentees, with an additional first team player, important to the side out with injury. Jack Wilshere is still out with his ankle problem, as is Abou Diaby, who underwent surgery on his ankle over the summer, and should be starting to come back into the Arsenal side within the next few weeks.

Thomas Vermaelen has been out for the past few weeks after having minor surgery on his ankle to remove an inflamed plantaris tendon. Sebastian Squaillaci also missed the win against Swansea on the week-end with a calf problem.

The medical staff at the Emirates really are earning their money, with the treatment room seeming to be an area of extreme familiarity for most of the Arsenal players. One must really start to question why all of these injuries occur - either the club are cursed with bad luck, or something in their training or preparation isn't right, although you would think with the vast managerial experience at the club, it surely wouldn't be the latter.

Arsene Wenger has taken an 18 man squad to Germany, including some of his summer signings in Mikel Arteta, Yossi Benayoun, Per Mertesacker and Ju Young-Park. Alex Song and Emmanuel Frimpong also return to the side after domestic suspensions, and will give the manager extra options in midfield.
