“It is a hard decision but it was easy at the same time because the proposal from the club to work for them was exciting.

“I wanted to learn the other side of the game as well, and what a club to do it at.”

The former midfielder was speaking as the Blues unveiled plans for a state-of-the-art, 80-acre training complex near to the newly renamed Etihad Stadium.

“It is fantastic, unbelievable," Vieira said. “When you are a player what you ask for is a facility where you can express yourself and learn.

“I don't think you will find a better facility than this around the world.”

New Arsenal forward Gervinho is in no doubt he has joined a club going forwards.

The Ivory Coast international has now completed his move to the Emirates Stadium after paperwork was completed on a reported £11million deal to bring him from Lille. The capture of the 24-year-old is the first major addition by manager Arsene Wenger as he looks to arrest a six-season trophy drought and put together a squad capable of lasting the distance.

"I have always followed Arsenal in the Premier League. They did not finish in the position they wanted, and sometimes seasons like that happen - but we all know the potential of this team and hopefully we will do better next season," Gervinho said on ArsenalPlayer.

"I can expect a great season from Arsenal, with a lot of success and a lot of emotion at the end.

"I expect us to achieve our goals, and also in the seasons beyond. I hope the fans will enjoy watching me play and that at the end of the season we will have the opportunity to celebrate something great together."

Gervinho caught the eye of plenty of Premier League clubs, including Liverpool and Tottenham. However, once Arsenal's interest was confirmed, the opportunity to work with Wenger was too good an opportunity to pass up.

"I came here because I believe that he can improve my game and help me reach another level, but the most important thing for me is that I bring a lot to the team for whom I am playing," the forward said.

Gervinho accepts it make take a few weeks to adapt to the hustle and bustle of the English top flight, but is determined to hit the ground running when the Gunners kick off their Premier League campaign at Newcastle on August 13.

He said: "I know English football is harder and I might need a bit of time at the start, but ultimately it is down to me to raise my game and adapt.

"With the help of the team, I hope I can do that quickly. I will prepare well to be ready by the start."

Kyle Bartley says he is ready to break into the Arsenal first team this season after making giant strides during his time at Rangers.

The commanding central defender was on the fringes of Arsène Wenger’s squad last summer but the manager decided another loan spell would be best for his development. Bartley headed to Sheffield United before making the switch to Rangers, where he excelled as the Scottish giants secured a League and Cup Double.

Now, after fine-tuning his game and learning a thing or two in the high-pressure environment of Ibrox, Bartley feels he has what it takes to be an Arsenal player.

“If I’m honest, I don’t think I was anywhere near the level to play for Arsenal last season,” he told Arsenal.com. “But I’ve come back, I feel really strong and I feel that I am ready now.

“I learned the demands of being at a top football club who are trying to win things and how important it is to be a champion and a winner. Every time you step on the pitch, you are going out there to win so there is a lot of pressure on you.

“I think I can offer something else [because] I am a little bit different to the other centre backs. I like the physical side of the game and I see myself as a leader. If Arsène decides that he wants me in the first team then that will be fantastic.”

Bartley wasn’t part of the squad that travelled to Asia because he had not fully recovered from a medial ligament injury sustained while north of the border.

He will link up with the first-team squad when they return to training on Tuesday and the 19-year-old is hoping to catch his manager’s eye ahead of this week’s trip to Germany.

“I spoke to the boss on the Friday before they left [for Asia] and he told me that they had four centre backs [going on the tour] and obviously I wasn’t fully over my injury yet. It’s just one of those things.

“It was always the aim to get back for the start of pre-season because it’s an important time of the year. I will be back with them on Tuesday when they are back in training with a view to going to Germany with them.

“He has said he doesn’t want me going on loan yet and he hasn’t made his mind up. My hopes are the same as every year, to be an Arsenal first-team player. Hopefully, this year, that will happen.”
