With the Frenchman seemingly set to leave this summer, we looked at the stats to determine exactly what Arsene Wenger's side would lose, and their rivals would gain.


Forget Barcelona’s seemingly eternal flirtation with Arsenal skipper Cesc Fabregas, this year’s transfer saga of the summer surrounds Samir Nasri, with Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United all believed to be in the running for the Frenchman.

The former Marseille man was one of the stars of last season’s Premier League and with only 12 months left on his Gunners contract looks almost certain to leave the Emirates for a new home.

But just what exactly will Arsene Wenger’s side be losing should the diminutive midfielder leave and what in turn would their rivals be set to acquire? Goal.com dusted off the calculators and abacuses to find out.

Castrol Football reveals that no player in the Premier League completed more successful passes in the final third than the Frenchman last season, with a grand total of 601.

A top effort from the Arsenal man, but in a side often condemned as well as adored for its ‘tippy tappy’ football, just how many of those made any significant impact?

you listen to the consensus from all the Arsenal rumours flying around you would expect that Samir Nasri and Cesc Fabregas will be leaving the Emirates imminently, with Nasri set to follow Gael Clichy to Manchester City.

But Arsene Wenger doesn’t seem at all worried about losing either Nasri or Cesc and seems to indicate that he actually wanted to sell Clichy so he could promote Kieran Gibbs to the first team.

He said: “The reasoning is that Kieran Gibbs at some stage has to get a chance to play. And Gael had only one year to go.

“I rate Gael very highly but I rate highly as well Kieran Gibbs, and he is now at an age where he has to play. And that’s the main reason behind that, to give Gibbs a chance”.

I would certainly agree that Gibbs is a great talent, but the obvious problem is that every time he has been given a run in the first team he gets injured. Wenger must be confident that these problems are now behind him……
