Dick Advocaat believes Arsenal are not taking full advantage of the talent of Russia captain Andrey Arshavin.

Speaking to Sport-Express, the Dutchman explained that the midfielder is not one to run and fight throughout the whole game but is instead a “single episode” player.

The 63-year old added that these type of players do not fit in Arsene Wenger’s philosophy as they are expected to run and track back for the full ninety minutes.

Arshavin, 30, joined Arsenal during the 2009 January transfer window and helped the Gunners secure a Champions League place but has been too inconsistent to make an impact this season.

Still, the Russian managed to score ten goals this season, three in the Champions League, one in the Carling Cup and six in the Premier League, including an amazing goal away at Wigan in December.

On Arshavin, Advocaat said:

One of his problems is that he plays 20 minutes per game. Arsenal head coach Arsene Wenger uses him as a player who can be fielded in the second half and who can refresh the game.

Andrey is showing willingness to give the team the best of what he has. I worked with him for over two years at Zenit and I know who he is. A brilliant player of a single episode.

At Arsenal it is not enough to be a player of an episode. Expecting from him a ninety-minute running means not knowing and not understanding Arshavin.

Arsenal are resigned to losing Gael Clichy this summer but manager Arsene Wenger is insistent he will not sell the full-back to another English club.

Talks have broken down over a new five-year deal thought to be worth around £80,000 a week, although the offer is still on the table should the 25-year-old decide to stay.

But Clichy is understood to feel his future lies elsewhere after eight years at the club and a source close to the player told Standard Sport today he is "highly unlikely" to sign a new deal.

Wenger has indicated he will sell Clichy now to avoid losing him for nothing when his contract expires next summer and Liverpool have reportedly tabled a £5million bid. But it is believed that Wenger is reluctant to sell to one of Arsenal's rivals and is set to sanction a move abroad, with Inter Milan, Juventus, Bayern Munich and Roma among the interested clubs.

Clichy, the last remaining member of Arsenal's 'Invincibles' team of 2004, is settled in England and is open to a move to another Premier League club.

Similarly, Wenger is keen to avoid Samir Nasri joining Manchester United with reports suggesting the champions have made a £10m bid.

However, another meeting is scheduled between Arsenal and Nasri's representatives. Nasri is demanding around £110,000 a week but Arsenal have so far offered £90,000 a week.

Arsenal have won the race to sign Ivorian striker Gervinho, according to reports.

The 24-year-old Lille striker has been the subject of intense interest from Barclays Premier League clubs, with Newcastle and Liverpool also thought to be keen on signing the player.

However, talkSPORT claims that Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has 'won the race' to sign the player, who admitted he would move to England earlier in the week.

"My mind is made up, I am leaving. I have made my mind up. I will soon meet the club and let them know, but they understand my feelings that I want to prove myself in a top league in Europe. My agents are moving things as I want, people know where my future lies, it is in England," he told SkySports on Wednesday.

After scoring 14 goals for the Ligue 1 champions last term, Gervinho's appeal appeared to have rocketed over recent months, with Alan Pardew thought to be leading the battle for his signature as recently as last week.

The Gunners have stolen a march in a bid to secure the signature though, and if the reports are confirmed then Arsenal will have added another attacking dimension to their options.

With Nicklas Bendtner poised to leave the club this summer, Wenger had set his sights on a new striker at the Emirates, confirming last month that he would look to bring players to the club should the 'right' players become available.

Gervinho's versatility has made him an even more attractive option to Wenger, with the Ivorian able to play either through the middle or on the wing in a potential 4-3-3 formation at Arsenal.

A further twist in the story has recently developed though, with a French media outlet claiming the player will move to Manchester City next week.

Neither Arsenal or Manchester City have officially confirmed the news, and clarification on the story is likely to come on Monday.

Cesc: At least Barca’s rivals don’t do better than ours. Tottenham beat us at home and even did better in the Champions League.

AW: I’m really sorry about that. But what can you do about a team comprising of apes?

Cesc: Also I think other Arsenal players abuse me in French.

Cesc: We are an English team so why should I?

AW: Oh Cesc! You can counter-abuse them in Spanish.

Cesc: Almunia translates it when I do…

Cesc: What about the hair-cuts of some players…

AW: Namely…

Cesc: Song, Sagna ,Chamakh…

AW: What about Puyol’s?

Cesc: Oh about that! I had a fight with him when I was 6 and his hair never recovered from it.

AW: What if you leave and Puyol does the same to you.

Cesc: I didn’t think about that.I also broke Iniesta’s G.I.Joe. Even stole Messi’s Barney. Now I understand why Barca players wanted me to sign for them.

It’s a conspiracy. They want everything back.I love my hair. I still play with Barney. I’m staying at Arsenal. I’m staying.

AW: I knew you would.

Cesc: But what about trophies?

AW: The Emirates Cup has even worse teams this year.
