All Signs Point to Wenger Spending Big by Max Baker

As many of you have probably figured out, Arsene Wenger is a stubborn individual and one who does not like to admit it when he is wrong. However, he seems different this off-season and maybe the manager has had a revelation regarding Arsenal’s transfer policy. I honestly think he has come to the realization that his buying of young, cheap, and inexperienced players isn’t working out.

Now let me explain my reasons for feeling this way and the first one is very simple, Arsene Wenger understands football and although he hates admitting any wrong doing anyone who has the football brain of Wenger has to recognize Arsenal’s frailties in defense and, more importantly, mental strength.

My next reason is the quality of players we have been linked with by the news outlets, players like Benzema, Higuain, Gary Cahill, Falcao, Vertonghen, Samba, Sakho, and so on. Now as we all know just because a club is rumored with a player it doesn’t mean that the club will sign him but it does usually mean that the club has some kind of interest in acquiring the player’s services.

My third reason is that Wenger has refused to rule out any moves for players. In multiple press conferences since the season came to a close reporters have thrown out all of the aforementioned names and Wenger hasn’t denied any reports of interest and Arsene is usually a real fan of rubbishing transfer rumors.

My final reason is Wenger’s attitude; he seems very upbeat for a man who just saw his club’s season implode in spectacular fashion.

He has that look that you get when you know you buy someone the perfect Christmas present and you can’t wait to give it to them.

Now I could be wrong of course, this could be another summer of Arsenal being rumoured with the world’s best footballers and Wenger not pulling the trigger and signing them but the way the off-season has started and the amount of money that has, reportedly, been offered by Arsenal for these players I think Gooners have a reason to be cautiously optimistic

Thiago Alcantara has been offered to Arsenal as part of Barcelona's latest attempt to capture Cesc Fabregas. Barca, after failing to land Gunners skipper Fabregas last summer, are willing to let Alcantara move to London as part of a ?50million deal. Midfielder Alcantara is the son of former Barcelona player Mazinho and the 20-year-old was given his chance towards the end of the campaign. Tussle: Alcantara (left) has been offered to Arsenal as part of a deal for Farbregas But he is likely to find his opportunities limited when manager Pep Guardiola strengthens his side for next season and will be allowed to leave as the Catalan giants desperately try to tempt Fabregas back to the club he left as a teenager in 2003. Reports in Spain suggest Alcantara met Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger when Barcelona were in London for the Champions League final. The youngster, who was born in Italy, is due to play for Spain at the Under 20 World Cup and played against England's youngsters in the same age group at last summer's European Championships. He made his Barcelona debut as an 18-year-old in May 2009 and scored his first goal in February 2010. Fabregas has made no secret of his desire to return to Barcelona but the Catalans' great rivals Real Madrid, according to reports in Spain, have also made the 24-year-old their top target. Gunner stunner! Contract rebel Nasri refuses to rule out move to United Arsenal and Liverpool considering ?17m bid for Barca wantaway Bojan?50m for Cesc! Arsenal slap huge price tag on skipper as Madrid plot bid :harbuz:

Samir Nasri wants Arsenal to move in the market before resuming talks
Samir Nasri wants to see Arsène Wenger make a serious impact on the summer transfer market before he considers committing his future to Arsenal.

The France midfielder is at impasse over his new contract talks, having deemed the club's offer of around £90,000 a week, which has been on the table for some weeks, to be insufficient. The stand‑off has led to angst and frustration at the club.

But while Nasri wants more money, he is equally keen to see Wenger add big names to a squad that fell apart when the trophies beckoned at the business end of this past season. Nasri, whose own fine form slumped in the final months, is similar to many of the club's supporters in the respect that he feels Wenger has to buy some proven talent.

Nasri has entered the final 12 months of his contract and, while it has been unfortunate that Arsenal have allowed the situation to develop, it is worrying that the 23‑year‑old has now spoken of the interest in him from Manchester United, who are in the market for a creative midfielder following the retirement of Paul Scholes. It could be that Nasri is using United as a bargaining chip. Wenger, though, has made it clear that he would not contemplate selling the player to the Old Trafford club.

Nasri said in an interview at the beginning of March that it was "today or never" for Arsenal to win the Premier League title. Disappointment at their capitulation – they took only 12 points from the final 11 matches and finished fourth, 12 points behind United – led to him asking questions about the strength of character in the dressing room.

Wenger, though, appears to have warmed to the theme of the need to galvanise the group. Although he is clear that his priority is to keep his existing stars, chiefly the captain Cesc Fábregas and Nasri, he does intend to be "very active" on the market.

He wants an experienced defender, who is used to the game in the Premier League, and Bolton Wanderers' Gary Cahill is a target, although Wenger is concerned that he is too expensive. He likes Paris St-Germain's Mamadou Sakho but he is only 21. Wenger also wants to reinforce in attack and he has been linked to an array of glamour signings, which might serve to appease Nasri. Wenger refuses to allow the former Marseille player to leave as a free agent next summer.

Rio Ferdinand joins Samir Nasri love-in

Last week we had the Man Utd defender Patrice Evra singing the praises of Samir Nasri, and telling him that he should give up Arsenal and move to United to win trophies, and now Rio ferdinand has joined in by saying that Nasri is one of the best French players in the Premiership.

“Samir Nasri is an excellent player who has a good technique and a huge amount of talent,” Ferdinand said. “And he scores goals.

“For me, he is one of the best players right now. I think he even won the title of best French football player at international level.

“The French have a history of good players here. Thierry Henry has been fantastic. Just like Cantona.”

Wenger came right out and said there was no way he would sell Nasri to Man United, but it seems that won’t stop the Man Utd players from doing a Barcelona and constantly talking about him. But perhaps someone should tell Ferdinand that Nasri is a long, long way from being an Henry or a Cantona……

Cruyff insists Barcelona must sign Cesc Fabregas
First it was David Villa telling Fabregas that he must join him at Barcelona and now Barcelona legend, Johan Cruyff is telling Barcelona that they must sign Fabregas so that they can be even better. There is no doubt that Barcelona would be a better team with Fabregas in their staring line-up or bench, he is after all the best midfielder in the world according to Arsene Wenger.

Cruyff believes signing Cesc would mean midfield stars Sergio Busquets, Andres Iniesta and Xavi can be kept fresher during the season.

The Dutchman, 64, said: “If Cesc signs there will be four players for three places, which means all of them can share out a lot of games.

“There comes a stage in the season when everything is at stake but the team is out of gas.

“As good as the Barca players are – and they are good – there comes a time where they’ve played too many games.

“You need players not only to strengthen competition but also to move things around without upsetting the team’s rhythm.”

Former Arsenal star Perry Groves on Cesc and Samir: Let them go
Former Arsenal winger Perry Groves says keeping Samir Nasri is more important than Cesc Fabregas.

Groves made over 150 appearances for the North London club and had his say on the current transfer speculation surrounding his former club.

Groves told talkSPORT: “I actually think he’s more important now than Cesc Fabregas for Arsenal’s future.

“If Cesc wants to go to Barcelona because he has that calling and he’s not 100 per cent committed, as long as Arsenal get the right money for him, whether it’s £40m or £50m they can then go and buy the centre-half and the combative midfield player they need.

“Samir Nasri was brilliant at the start of the season when him and Jack Wilshere were the two main players. I think he had 10 or 11 goals before Christmas.

“And then when Cesc Fabregas came back in the team he played him left of the three or right of the three and he wasn’t as influential.

“His contract has only got one season left so he now will want to go on to be one of the highest earners on the wage structure and I think he’ll want guarantees of where he’ll play so there is a little bit of brinkmanship going on.”

Wanted: Bojan is a target for Liverpool and Arsenal Liverpool and Arsenal are in touch with Barcelona over signing unwanted forward Bojan.
The 20-year-old is keen to leave the European champions after a frustrating season consisting largely of substitute appearances.
Liverpool would consider spending ?17million and could try to do a double deal involving Bojan's team-mate Jeffren, another forward set to slip further down the pecking order when Barcelona manager Pep Guardiola finalises a deal for Giuseppe Rossi from Villarreal.
Arsenal are also interested in former Birmingham midfielder and free agent Sebastian Larsson, 25. Blackburn, Sunderland and Newcastle have also made offers.
Midfielder Joe Cole is leaning towards staying at Anfield. Liverpool are willing to offload the 29-year-old for around ?3m but he would have to prove his fitness.
Gunner stunner! Contract rebel Nasri refuses to rule out move to rivals United United to miss out on Henderson as Sunderland midfielder opts for Anfield
