Arsenal ace Samir Nasri has refused to rule out a possible move to Manchester United.

Premier League champions United are reported to be monitoring Nasri's contract situation at Emirates Stadium with the midfielder yet to agree a new deal.

The 23-year-old is entering the final year of his contract and talks over a new deal have stalled.

Nasri, who is currently away on international duty with France, admits he is unsure over his future at Arsenal.

"I don't know if I will sign a new contract," Nasri told French TF1's Telefoot.

"Anyway, the discussions are ongoing. For the moment, I don't think about this. We will speak about it after the match with Poland."

Nasri is remaining coy on speculation linking him with a shock move to Old Trafford.

"Do I want to go to Man United? First, we should see if it's real and if it is concrete," added Nasri.

A situation is brewing at Arsenal that is hard to call.

Will Samir Nasri, who has shown no inclination thus far to sign a new deal, commit himself to the Emirates?

Or will the French midfielder run his contract down and go to Manchester United?

It is easy if you are a Gooner to defiantly insist there is no chance of Arsenal selling to their bitter Premier League rivals.

But if Nasri digs his heels in and decides he doesn't want to go anywhere else. And if United are giving the Gunners the chance of £7-8million this summer or nothing next year, it could be on.

Already he has told French TV he is waiting to see what Manchester United have to say - which for me is akin to a married man taking off his wedding ring when he thinks he is in with a chance with another woman.

Certainly Arsenal don't want a repeat of the Mathieu Flamini situation of a few years ago when that midfielder left for AC Milan on a free transfer, leaving the north Londoners out of pocket.

Yet selling to United - effectively making Sir Alex Ferguson's line-up stronger - is something Wenger will want to resist as much as is humanly possible.

And the noises coming out of the Nasri camp have so far been suggesting they do not have total belief in the direction that Arsenal are headed under Le Professeur.

Throw into the mix the fact that United's Patrice Evra, well aware of the Nasri stand-off, has been urging his countryman to join him at Old Trafford and you can see why the odds are stacking up against Nasri staying.

Personally I always have been - and always will be - of the opinion that if a player is so determined to leave a football club that he would go to their bitter rivals, then let him go.

Arsenal have been in this place so many times and they have survived. They survived the sale of Nicolas Anelka to Real Madrid with Thierry Henry taking them to the next level.

They survived the sale of Marc Overmars to Barcelona 11 years ago. And so on, and so on. Yes, the last few years have been barren and difficult. But Wenger himself has resolved this summer to be "active" in the transfer market - presumably buoyed by the incoming cash of the billionaire Stan Kroenke.

I'd also be staggered if, after surveying the wreckage of this season and bearing in mind the resurgence of Liverpool, Wenger is not targeting top-line talent rather than more rising stars for next season.

And of the rising stars we could see next season there is the soon-to-be-returning Japanese midfielder Ryo Miyaichi who apparently was nicknamed 'Ryodinho' during his loan spell in Holland after comparisons to Ronaldinho.

The Lille winger Eden Hazard has skills that has attracted a posse of top clubs. Arsenal are favourites though. Should Wenger wave the white flag and bring in Gary Cahill to beef up his defence even further - with Thomas Vermaelen to continue his resurgence next season - then, at a stroke, Arsenal are could have more organisation at the back.

Scott Parker alongside Jack Wilshire in midfield could replicate the England midfield of the next few years. The other Lille hotshot, Gervinho is also being tracked by Arsenal. I wonder if he could play on the right with Theo Walcott starting to make the transition into a centre-forward.

Even if Walcott stays on the right with Gervinho coming in to fight for that place, Wenger is well aware that a top-line striker is needed with mouthy Nicklas Bendtner on his way.

And the point is, the future is still bright for Arsenal. So if Nasri wants to go, let him go.

Yes, it will be hard to stomach at first. Particularly given that he is a quality player and particularly given the support and the backing Arsenal fans have given him during his time in north London.

But if he were to defect at the first sign of trouble then I think it would say a lot about him as a man.
