Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger understands why the fans are disappointed after a sixth year without a trophy but will not completely change the philosophy of the how the Club is run.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online, the Frenchman believes his players are under pressure because of the impatience of people, people who are used to see their team securing a Champions League place and therefore expect more when the campaign comes to an end.

Asked how close the Gunners are to end their trophyless crisis, the Arsenal boss declared that they are doing 95% of the things right adding that they are only 5% away from success as he again insisted that his team gave absolutely everything this season.

And on the fans, Wenger concluded by saying that they should be proud of their team, of the players and of the way the Club is managed, again saying that they are very close to achieve their objectives.

Ahead of next season, the Frenchman said:

[Criticism?] Because of impatience of people, because people are used for us to be in the Champions League and you gave to give them more and we were not capable of do it.

As well because people love what we do but they want us to be rewarded, to be convinced that we do things the right way.

I believe deeply people think we do things the right way but they want as well the proof that we do it the right way.

I personally share that, I can understand that but it doesn’t mean that we have completely to change our philosophy, the way our Club is run, the way we are doing things.

I am personally convinced that we are at the point where we do 95% right but we have to gain this 5% because it’s so frustrating to flirt with success like we have been this year, because this team has given absolutely everything.

As well a bit unlucky, we lost against Barcelona, in the F.A. Cup against Manchester United so we did not really not perform but the added frustrations of course provoked this kind of reactions.

[I ask fans] to be proud, you have a right to be proud of your players, of the way your Club is run and we completely are on board with you when you are not happy that we have not won the Premiership but we are close.

Well it looks like Manchester United and Arsenal will be at war again, not on the pitch again but this time in the pre-season signing race, with Messrs Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger both eyeing up and observing the Argentine midfielder Ricky Alvarez. Arsenal, who were believed to have signed an agreement with the player, and Manchester United scouts, have both been out to Argentina to observe their potential target.

Ricky Alvarez, who currently plays for Argentina’s Velez Sarsfield, is expected to cost €12 million or more to the eventual winner of his much coveted signature, and Sir Alex Ferguson is very keen on bringing the attacking midfielder to Old Trafford as he begins to rebuild his midfield, and with the retirement of Paul Scholes he would be seen as a fantastic replacement.

Andrey Arshavin has lifted the lid on why he hasn’t given an interview to a British newspaper this year, admitting that they are ‘inaccurate’ and ‘twist’ what he says.

Last season, the outspoken Arsenal midfielder was misquoted as saying he ‘wants to leave Arsenal’, with the Russian maestro quickly having to deny those reports.

Arshavin’s refusal to talk with British newspapers means that the Russian media provide the main source of information for the 29-year-old, and he confesses that the situation still hasn’t improved because of the poor interpretations from English news outlets.

“This year I didn’t give a single interview to the English media – not because I don’t like them, but rather because I understood one thing: there are some nuances which can be expressed with very accurate words only. I’m not always able to find such words in English. Because of this, the meaning gets changed – and you should also add here the journalists that would twist what I’ve said,” Arshavin told Sport.RU.

“However, it didn’t get any better after I decided not to talk to them. Now the British media take my interviews in Russia and translate them at random. And the situation gets even more absurd, when some of the domestic media take this English translation and  it back into Russian.”

Arshavin joined the Gunners during the 2009 January transfer window and has scored 28 goals in over 100 appearances for the club.

He featured in all bar one of Arsenal’s games in the Premier League this season, but is not a guaranteed starter in Wenger’s starting XI due to his inconsistent form.
