It has been a long and hard road back for the Wales international after suffering a double leg fracture following a tackle with Stoke's Ryan Shawcross in February 2010.

Ramsey undertook loan spells with Cardiff and Nottingham Forest to help rebuild match fitness and Sunday's start in Cesc Fabregas' absence was just his second in league action for the Gunners this term.

The 20-year-old settled the game at Emirates Stadium with a 56th-minute winner that moved his club to within six points of the league leaders.

"Scoring the goal was a special moment for me. This was worth the wait and so many people have helped me through the tough time I had," said Ramsey.

"Hopefully this will give them the same satisfaction as it does me. After these remaining games, hopefully I can come back and have a good pre-season, and then go again next year.

"Our target was just to win the remaining games, so we have started on that. Hopefully now we can continue this and let's see where that takes us."

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger was delighted with Ramsey's contribution and was full of praise for the young Welshman.

"Ramsey has what you cannot give to a player - he knows when to get into the box and how to finish, that is part of Aaron," he told Arsenal TV Online.
Belief

Wenger was delighted with his side's display against the leaders having slumped in form at the crucial stage of the campaign and he insists belief remains high.

"When you listened to everybody before the game, we had no chance to take any points, but we won so let's keep believing in ourselves," he continued.

"Despite the disappointments, the group is healthy, ambitious and there is a lot of quality."
