After the Gunners' last minute defeat to Bolton which effectively ended any chances of winning the title, here are my ratings.... please comment if you agree or disagree.

Sczcesny- 8.0- Another excellent performance yet again by the young Polish keeper, who has been one of the few bright spots for the Gunners this season. Made an excellent saves on Kevin Davies from the penalty spot and other top-class saves from Elmander and Sturridge.... didn't deserve to be on the losing side.

Sagna- 6- Had an alright game, especially defensively, but attacking-wise, he was wasteful and didn't do much as his crosses were wayward to say the least.

Koscielny and Djourou-4- Disastrous game from the center backs, Sturridge tore them apart today time and time again, both goals came from set pieces which they should've dealt better with.... not a good game at all, Wenger seriously needs to buy a top-class defender.

Clichy-5- Not a good game from the French left-back, he's becoming a liability to the team. He was given a hard time by Bolton, especially by Sturridge and Chung Young Lee, and he was awful attacking wise with his crosses way off the mark. I believe Wenger needs to reconsider giving him a new contract.

Song-5- The big Cameroonian didn't have much influence at all in my opinion and was rightly substituted in the second half.

Wilshere-6- The talented Wilshere had a great start to the game, but slowly faded away... this doesn't mean he had a poor game, but not a good one by his standards.... still, like Sczcesny, one of the few bright spots this season.

Fabregas-6.5- The skipper didn't stamp his authority as he would've loved to and like he usually does, but he was still dangerous with a shot hitting the post, and providing the assist for Van Persie.

Nasri- 4.5- This was a debatable one, as I'm probably harsh on Nasri, who's been our best player this season. He didn't have a poor game, but he had three glorious chances to win the game for the Gunners and he blew them shockingly.... which unfortunately cost the Gunners dearly.

Walcott-5.5- Just like Wilshere, started the game brightly, but then slowly faded away. He didn't worry Robinson as much as he would've liked to.

Van Persie-6.5- Not a great game for the Dutchman, but he was one of the best players for the Gunners today, took his goal well and gave it his all. Showed his frustrations, when he argued with Matt Taylor after the match.
Subs:

Chamakh- 5.5- The big Moroccan didn't exactly do much, but I believe he could've done better with the excellent pass Van Persie provided for him, when he tried to head it down to Nasri.... and it wasn't the best of layoffs.

Arshavin- 6- The little Russian ran his socks off ever since he stepped on the pitch, he did everything he can to give Arsenal the win.

Ramsey- N/A

The Arsenal legend Ray Parlour believes that Arsene Wenger desperately needs to buy a leader in the same mould as Tony Adams, and he believes that Bolton’s Gary Cahill should be brought to the Emirates immediately as the perfect solution.

Parlour believes that Arsenal would have easily won the League with just three additions to the squad, but Cahill is the most important component right now.

Parlour said: “This summer is vital. I think he will buy three players and he will let a few go – people on the fringes, maybe the likes of Denilson and Bendtner.

“If Arsenal had a Tony Adams at the back now they’d win the league – no doubt about that”Ray Parlour

“I’d buy Cahill straight away and try to mould him into Tony Adams. If Arsenal had a Tony Adams at the back now they’d win the league – no doubt about that.

“They’ve been very close but they need two stoppers, players who aren’t going to concede goals. We all know they’re great going forward and will score goals.

“I’m the biggest Wenger fan so I don’t agree with people saying getting rid of him. But now he needs a couple of big signings in the summer. If he makes those key signings Arsenal will be in with a chance again next season.”

The only problem is that people have been telling Wenger to improve the defence for the last three seasons, and each year they consistently concede even more goals than the year before!

Arsene Wenger admits he will strengthen the Arsenal squad "where it needs" this summer in what is set to be one of the key decisions of his tenure.

The Gunners look to be heading for a sixth consecutive season without silverware after a last-minute defeat at Bolton left them nine points behind Barclays Premier League leaders Manchester United with just four games left.

Only eight weeks ago, Arsenal appeared well on course for a much different outcome before they suffered a shock Carling Cup final defeat to Birmingham at Wembley, went out of Europe to Barcelona and then lost their FA Cup quarter-final at Old Trafford.

Six draws from the last nine of an unbeaten 16-game Premier League run, which ended on Sunday, saw what had looked to be a sustained title assault fail to last the distance once again.

Wenger cut a forlorn figure at full-time at the Reebok Stadium, as the reality of his young squad's latest failing sunk in.

The Gunners boss has endured great criticism of his unwavering faith in youth, with fans and pundits alike calling for him to add some steely experience to all that potential.

While Wenger is unlikely to raid his £40million warchest for just one marquee signing this summer, it is now highly probably a couple of more mature players will be brought in to help the current generation win that first illusive trophy.

"We have the quality, that is for sure. We have to strengthen the squad where it needs and make the right decision on that front. It [transfers] is always in my mind every day," Wenger told Arsenal TV Online.

"The team have had an outstanding attitude and will not be rewarded because of small things, but small things cost you.

"It is frustrating because the team has produced the efforts.

"We have to be realistic that it [the title] is very unlikely now, but we have to finish as well as we can."

Next up for Arsenal is the visit of United on May 1, in what Wenger had hoped could prove a title showdown, but where now an Arsenal victory would only seem to serve as a delaying tactic for the Red Devils' coronation or give London rivals Chelsea a shot in the arm.

Despite all of the now perennial criticism over his young squad, Wenger maintains Arsenal's philosophy stands true.

"If someone can convince me that the principles are wrong I am ready to change, but I feel we try to play football the proper way," he said.

"When you don't win you question your principles, but you have to give yourself the right distance to see what is right and wrong in what you do.

"I think if something is wrong in our team, it is not the principles in playing our football."

Wenger, however, accepted shortcomings at the back have proven too costly, Arsenal without injured centre-half Thomas Vermaelen for most of the campaign.

"We have not been stable enough defensively," he said.

"The numbers are the numbers - this week we have conceded six goals and you cannot afford to concede six goals in April in three games and win the championship.

"Defensively we have been too frail this season."

Wenger may not have delivered a trophy since Patrick Vieira lifted the 2005 FA Cup in Cardiff, but few can accuse the club of standing still.

Arsenal have moved from Highbury to their new 60,000-seater home at Ashburton Grove, which in the long-term will secure their self-funding status, while the Gunners also reached the 2006 Champions League final.

Wenger has overseen consistent qualification for Europe's lucrative elite club competition in each of the past 15 seasons, while his transfer spending is in credit - unlike all of Arsenal's title rivals - and has tied-up key men such as Cesc Fabregas on long-term deals.

Former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson believes calls for a change in the dugout are wide of the mark.

"He is not fireproof, nobody is, but Arsene is an intelligent man and he will say when he has taken them as far as he can," former Scotland goalkeeper Wilson, who won the double with Arsenal in 1971, told BBC Radio Five Live.

"I don't think the board will ever sack Arsene, unless there is a dramatic slump in the manner they play."

Wilson added: "Arsene has a complete aversion to paying double the price for British players, but he has to swallow his pride on that because there has to be a more British feel to the team."

Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny is determined to hold on to his Arsenal place next season.

Speaking to Arsenal’s official website, the Poland International explained that he is doing his best this season to show that he can be the number one for the Gunners next season adding that whatever decision manager Arsene Wenger will make he will keep on working hard to secure a regular place in the Frenchman’s starting eleven.

Despite heavy criticism, Wenger opted to start the season with Spain’s Manuel Almunia in goal then replaced by Lukasz Fabianski after suffering a shoulder injury who was then himself replaced by Szczesny after suffering an injury of his own.

On Sunday, the 21-year old was one of the best players for Arsenal in their 2-1 defeat away against Bolton Wanderers making a number of very good saves and saving a penalty in the first part of the second half.

On his future, he said:

I’m doing my best. Whatever decision the manager makes at the start of next season is completely down to him, but I will do my best to cement my position in goal.

I will always look at this as my ‘breakthrough’ season and I want to cement my place in the team for a long time.

Whatever happens this year, next year will be very important for me personally and for Arsenal as well.
