According to former Arsenal defender Martin Keown the problem with the Gunners is not the manager but players who don’t look entirely committed.

Writing on his Daily Mail column, the Englishman explained that the Frenchman has dedicated so much of his life to the club that it would be harsh to sack him just when he is so close to finally win another trophy.

But, the 44-year old explained that changes are required adding that the manager must have identified players who let him down this season and will take actions during the summer transfer window.

Ahead of next season, Keown said:

There is no way Arsene Wenger should leave Arsenal. He has dedicated so much of his life to the club and I’m confident he will win more trophies.

But to do that he must get the right mix of players because, as good as many of his crop are, he is at a crossroads with some of them.

In public, he has overestimated his team’s ability to win, but in private he probably realises that there are a couple of ingredients missing.

With teams who are champions you can see the confidence – they turn up at places certain that they are going to win. There is an aura, but this Arsenal side are unpredictable.

The team were at their best and their worst against Tottenham and recently seem unable to finish teams off. It is a far cry from when they beat Barcelona at home and looked capable of anything.

They are frustratingly inconsistent and there are games when certain players don’t look entirely committed. Wenger will know which players have let him down and who needs replacing.

Because they are not far away, it is not all doom and gloom. There will be new faces but some of those who stay need to look at their performances and maybe learn to believe in themselves.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger confirmed the Club’s “absolute commitment to youth” will not change next season.

Speaking ahead of today’s away game against Bolton Wanderers, the Frenchman admitted there is always a need to improve but added that this season’s campaign can be archived as a positive one and therefore no radical changes are required in the squad.

The Arsenal boss insisted that the second place in the table and the way his side crashed out of the Champions League against Barcelona show that there is quality in the side and that those believing Arsenal are rubbish are completely wrong.

Asked about the future of Samir Nasri and Gael Clichy, Wenger concluded by again saying that the parties will meet in the summer adding that he is optimistic that the two will stay at the Club.

On Friday, Wenger said:

We will continue to have an absolute commitment to youth. We will add to that what is needed. I believe you cannot be responsible, be a big club and have no desire to develop young players.

I feel there is always a need to improve the team but if you look at our season you cannot come to the conclusion we need a massive change.

That would be completely stupid because – without speaking about being 4-0 up at Newcastle or the Sunderland draw – if we just beat Liverpool and Tottenham we are two points behind Man United and we still have to play them at home.

You cannot come to a conclusion this team needs a massive change. We lost against Barcelona – just, with ten men. We are up there yet because we have not won trophies people destroy us completely.

But look at the reality. If you are the second-best selling newspaper in the country you do not shut your office. We live in a world where you are the second best by a little and everybody says you are rubbish. It is not true. That is the modern world but it is not the reality.

We are talking to Nasri and his agent already and we have the same situation with Clichy. We have agreed to speak about it during the summer. I am very optimistic [that they will stay].
