1) Lakshmi Mittal (28.7 miliarde de dolari) conduce ArcelorMittal, cel mai mare producator de otel al lumii, cu vanzari de peste 65 de miliarde de dolari in ultimele 12 luni. Mittal a cumparat 20% din echipa Queens Park Rangers in 2007 iar recent s-a vorbit ca isi doreste sa cumpere de la Flavio Briatore 54% din actiuni. Mittal finanteaza si Otelul Galati cu circa 2 milioane de euro pe an.

2) Amancio Ortega (25 miliarde de dolari) este al 9-lea dintre cei mai bogati oameni ai lumii si finanteaza Deportivo De La Coruna. El isi doreste sa construiasca un nou stadion pentru ca echipa sa faca performanta.

3) Paul Allen (13.5 miliarde de dolari) Dupa doar un sezon in MSL, co-fondatorul Microsoft este deja in topul celor mai bogati patroni. Seattle Sounders a batut un record de audienta: 31.000 de suporteri la un meci. A investit 30 de milioane de dolari iar rezultatele incep sa se vada.

4) Roman Abramovich (11.2 miliarde de dolari) si-a pierdut jumatate de avere odata cu criza care a lovit in toata lumea. Nici Chelsea nu a avut o perioada foarte buna; Englezii au cheltuit 73 de milioane de dolari in ultimii ani.

5) Silvio Berlusconi (9 miliarde de dolari) este Primul Ministru al Italiei si patronul clubului AC Milan. Averea i-a crescut cu 20% in ultimul an, odata cu investitiile in Mediaset si Banca Mediolanum. Milanul nu l-a ajutat: a avut o scadere de 19%, adica 800 milioane dolari. AC Milan ramane totusi cel mai bogat club din Italia.

6) Francois Pinault (8.7 miliarde de dolari) este patronul lui Rennes si fondator al grupului PPR, compania care controleaza branduri precum Gucci si Balenciaga. Rennes nu a reusit inca sa distruga suprematia celor de la Lyon si Marseille.

7) John Fredriksen (7.7 miliarde de dolari) este un miliardar care iubeste fotbalul la fel mult cat uraste taxele. El s-a mutat in Cipru in 2006 pentru a scapa de impozitele uriase din Norvegia. Fredriksen este patronul lui Valerenga si a facut bani din petrol. El isi doreste sa cumpere in viitor si un club din Premier League.

8) Alisher Usmanov (7.2 miliarde de dolari) a facut o avere impresionanta din otel si telecomunicatii. El detine 26.3% din Arsenal, in timp ce rivalul sau Kroneke are 29.9%. Prin cercurile de afaceri porecla lui este “Mana grea a Rusiei”.

9) Philip Anschutz (6 miliarde de dolari) detine mai multe cluburi: Los Angeles Galaxy, Houston Dynamo si Hammarby. Are o cretere de 1 miliard in ultimul an, iar pasiunea pentru fotbal l-a ridicat enorm. A fost un moment cand detinea 5 cluburi din MLS.

10) Bernard Ecclestone (4 miliarde de dolari) detine actiuni la Queen's Park Rangers iar averea lui a crescut cu 8% in ultimul an in timp ce clubul sau a terminat pe 11 in Championship.

Vermaelen to return in ‘four to six weeks’

Thomas Vermaelen will undergo a procedure to cure his troublesome Achilles injury and should be back in “four to six weeks”.

The Belgian defender has not played since September 7 when he completed 90 minutes for his country in a Euro 2012 qualifier against Turkey. He returned to England with a tendon problem and was expected back in action within a week.

More than four months on Vermaelen is still waiting for his first-team comeback but Arsène Wenger believes the 25-year-old will return in February. In an exclusive interview with Arsenal TV Online, the manager clarified the next steps on his road to recovery.

“It’s not a real surgery,” said Wenger. “It is to take out a little [tendon] next to his [Achilles] tendon. It is to open it a little bit and cut out the [tendon] that has been causing the friction. It is a procedure, that is the right medical term.

“We are very optimistic that [this will cure the problem]. But of course it is now what you call in football a little bit longer delay of four to six weeks.”

According to some reports, Vermaelen has targeted the first leg of the Champions League tie with Barcelona on February 16 for his comeback. That falls within Wenger’s time-frame but the Frenchman knows his centre back will need games before he can perform at the top level.

“Let’s count the weeks to Barcelona and you will know,” said Wenger. “I count a minimum of four weeks, maximum six, so it is not an unrealistic target.

“But don’t forget as well he is a little bit in the situation of Aaron Ramsey, he has not played since the beginning of September, that means he will need some games to be completely fit.”

Henry: If anyone can beat Barcelona it is Arsenal

Former Arsenal star Thierry Henry believes that the Gunners are the only club that can beat another of his old clubs, Barcelona, this season.

The North Londoners and the Catalan giants meet in the first knockout phase of the Champions League on February 16 and Frenchman Henry, currently in the USA with New York Red Bulls, feels Arsenal are the team to eliminate Barcelona.

"That is going to be the two best teams in terms of football,” he said.

"Both clubs play the way football should be played. I think for the neutral it will be an amazing game.

"For me? I'm an Arsenal fan but have a lot of friends at Barca — so it will be a difficult one.

"But if any team can beat Barca, it would be Arsenal."
