This took place at White Hart Lane, of all places in 1945. Arsenal were playing Dynamo Moscow when a dense fog descended on the pitch. The referee refused to abandon the match because the visiting team had come all the way from Moscow. The game swiftly reduced to farce! One Arsenal player was sent off for fighting, but sneaked back on again in the fog. The Russians substituted a player, but never sent their player off. Indeed, there were strong suspicions, that throughout the game, the Russian side secretly increased from 11 players to 15! The problem was that no-one could actually see enough to count them. The final confusion happened when the Arsenal goalie became disorientated in the fog, ran into the goal post and knocked himself out. He was replaced by a member of the crowd.

The new Arsenal striker has only faced Chelsea once before in his career, when Bordeaux were blown away 4-0 at Stamford Bridge in the Champions League. He believes that then he was playing for a team that couldn’t live with Chelsea’s strength, but now he is in an Arsenal team that has the measure of the Double winners this time around.

“With Bordeaux it was a bad experience, a bad memory.

“Not necessarily against Terry but against Chelsea. We lost 4-0 and at Bordeaux we had a 1-1 draw.

“I was impressed with their speed, the pace of the game and this was a team that had specifically trained to win the Champions League.

“They were stronger and more aggressive – but now at Arsenal we are equals.”

He is looking forward to coming up against John Terry again, and has a plan to put him off his stride.

“John Terry is a player I appreciate. He is a very good defender and I think it is going to be really tough against him.

“I think it is going to be a really good match. What is important is that I try to disturb him and I need to move as much as possible to try to rattle him.”

Arsene Wenger also thinks that Chamakh can be intrumental in beating the Blues, and believes that the Frenchman is much more than just a lethal goalscorer.

“He is a player that gives something more than his quality to the team because he has a desire to win and a desire to give to others as well,” said Wenger.

“He makes other players look good around him. He believes he can win, he is a winner. He isn’t someone who hides in front of physical challenges.”

Todays the day Marouane, get out there and show John Terry that he isn’t as special as he thinks he is….

“You only have to look at what happened to Portsmouth and Leeds. You only look at clubs who have unlimited resources but all the mismanaged clubs died before. Nobody survived.

“What’s surprising is that what looks sensible looks crazy,”.

“I’m not the only sensible person but the fact that I manage a club in a sensible way looks crazy. The biggest reproach I get is ‘why do you manage the Club in the right way?’

“The fans want big players on the pitch and they want to win football games – I can understand that. But I’m responsible for the future of the Club.”

And none of us can deny that Wenger has set the tone for the rest of the league. Manchester United and Chelsea don’t go out spending 100’s of millions on players any more, and they are bringing through more and more youth players. This is the future, and the way it should be.

The fact that Arsenal have doing this for years will serve them in good stead for the future, and lets face it, we WANT to see more English youngsters coming through.

Okay Arsenal haven’t actually won a trophy for five years, but as Wenger said: “I am not happy we have not won the Premier League but we have not been completely in the desert,”

“We have been in the Champions League Final, we have been close to winning the Premier League. We have not been seventh or eighth. We have always been there.

“You have to acknowledge that Chelsea have been better than us in the last five years. We are in a league where teams win the Champions League – it’s difficult.

“But we are in the top eight in Europe, we have never been higher than now in the whole history of the Club. You can’t say we aren’t ambitious to be No 1.

“Do you think I work 24 hours a day to wait for another season? Of course I want this to be the season and I will give absolutely everything for it to be the season. I want to win the game on Sunday and I’m convinced we will win the game on Sunday.”
