BREAKING NEWS: Squillaci set to sign for Arsenal on 3 year deal

Sebastien Squillaci will become Arsenal’s third signing of the summer shortly — after it was announced that he would fly to London tonight ahead of a medical at the club’s London Colney training ground tomorrow morning.

The 30-year-old’s departure from Sevilla was revealed on their official website, with a 3-year deal in the region of £5.3 million being touted by the Spanish media.

Squillaci was withdrawn from the Sevilla squad that faced Braga in the first leg of the Champions League play-off tie on Wednesday as the Spanish club did not want to jeopardise the prospect of a deal by rendering him cup-tied in Europe.

Manager Arsene Wenger earlier admitted that the Gunners are in need for more defensive options after a summer which has seen William Gallas, Sol Campbell, Philippe Senderos and Mikael Silvestre leave the club.

Sevilla announce sale of Squillaci to Arsenal

Spanish giants Sevilla announced on Sunday the sale of veteran defender Sebastien Squillaci to Arsenal.

According to Sevilla's official website, the French World Cup defender will fly to London later Sunday to undergo medical checks with the Gunners.

Media reports suggest that Arsenal will pay around €6.5 million for Squillaci, 30, which is exactly what Sevilla paid for him to Lyon in 2008.

Sevilla's website also stated that Squillaci requested not to play in the Champions League qualifying round against Sporting Braga last Wednesday, in order not to damage his chances of signing for Arsenal.

If he had played in the 1-0 defeat then he would not have been eligible to play for Arsenal in the Champions League this season.

Media reports suggested that Squillaci had an angry row with coach Antonio Alvarez on the team bus just before the Braga match because of his refusal to play.

De fapt am privit meciurile lui Monaco din CL2004 (cind au ajuns in finala), dar nu tin minte cum el a jucat (numai golul cela superb contra RM il tine minte, in rest nimic).. Insa e experimentat. iar noua asta ne trebuie

WOW, numai ce am vast Fever Pitch, damn i absolutely loved that! :w00t:

cred k numai fiind un gooner intelegi cu adevarat sensul sh farmecul filmului, clubul care p/u el inseamna mai mult ca viatza, cite sacrificii a avut, am in vedere k autorul cartzii autobiografice "Fever Pitch" chiar a trecut prin asta, 18 ani sa retraiesti k nu cistigi nimic sh in ultimul meci al campionatului cind joci pe Anfield sh cind ai vreo 5% sa cistigi 2-0 asta sh s-a intimplat... filmul asta intra in top5 favorite ale mele for sure :mml:
