Barca U-15 progress to Cup semi-final

After defeating Internacional of Brazil 2-3 in the Quartefinals of the Manchester United Premier Cup 2010, FC Barcelona’s Cadet B side will face another South American rival, this time Colo Colo from Chile, in the Semi-finals, to be held later today.

The Manchester United Premier Cup is a competition FC Barcelona has won twice before, in 1999 with a winning goal by Iniesta, and also in 2007 in a team led by Marc Muniesa. Involving twenty teams from around the World and four days of competition, FC Barcelona’s Under-15 side has fared well in a whirlwind competition in which two games are played daily by each team. Their results so far are outlined below, with match descriptions translated from FC Barcelona’s official website.

Quarter-finals, Day 3: Internacional 2-3 FC Barcelona

In a great first half by the Catalans, Keita Balde scored twice, the result of two combinations on the left wing with Ebwelle and Dongou, respectively. While things looked positive for the blaugrana, things changed quickly at the break, when the pressure of the Brazilian team was able to neutralize Cadet B for the first time. Mistakes in the Barca defense tied the score (2-2), with only ten minutes left.

But four minutes later, the game-winner came, emerging from one of the best plays of the tournament by the Catalans: Hector Bellerín delivered the ball to Roger Riera who put it in the back of the net, sending the side into the semi-finals.

Group Stages, Day 2: FC Barcelona 0-0 Sutherland Sharks

In the second and final match of the second day, the Sutherland Sharks of Australia provided a tough challenge for the blaugrana, who struggled against a very strong rival. Although the team had a few chances to open the scoring, the ball just wouldn’t go in the net, resulting in a goalless draw. This one point gained, however, proved very valuable, allowing them to qualify automatically for the next round of the tournament: the quarterfinals.

Group Stages, Day 2: MMS Kedah 0-3 FC Barcelona

The first encounter played on Thursday pitted the blaugrana youngsters against MMS Kedah. And Barça B left no options open for their rival, despite the strength of the Malaysian players, who had to work hard to keep up with the play of the Catalan team.

After 15 minutes, Sandro opened the scoring for Barca, which was followed in the second half by goals from Keita Balde and Jon Toral, the latter in the last gasp of the game, sealing the final score of 0-3.

Group Stages, Day 1: FC Barcelona 2-3 Alta Loma Arsenal SC

In the afternoon, in the second game of the day against Alta Loma Arsenal SC from the United States, Cadet B failed to circulate the ball as smoothly as they had against Man U. And within ten minutes, the Catalans have been caught in a backlash and a corner leaving them two goals behind.

The cadets were able to cut the deficet in half before the break, via a pass from Keita Balde to Jon Toral to make it 1-2. When it appeared, however, that Barça controlled the situation with the recovery of possession, a goal from a seemingly impossible volley left an uphill battle (1-3) again for Barca.

On the next play, Pol García scored to make it 2-3, but Barca’s comeback wasn’t to be, as the crossbar prevented what would have been the tying goal before the end of the match.

Group Stages, Day 1: Manchester United 0-3 FC Barcelona

In Manchester’s sports facilities in Carrignton, the Cadet B team led by Víctor Sánchez met their first opponent of the cup in the host team: Manchester United. FC Barcelona made their superiority clear from the moment the ball started rolling on the pitch.

During the 40 minutes of the game, the Catalans took advantage of the speed of the field to display their game. Ten minutes in, Jean Marie Dongou opened the scoring. The same player, in the second half, scored his second goal. The third goal came in the final stretch of the match, after Jon Toral (who had two shots hit the woodwork), sent in a cross to Sandro Ramirez making the final score 0-3. Although Dongou was the player of the match scoring two goals, the whole team played at a strong level taking the match very seriously.

“Firstly I would like to apologise to all the Arsenal fans for not speaking sooner about my future but I have not known what I was going to do until this moment.

“I cannot deny that joining a club like Barcelona was not an attractive move for me. This was the club where I learnt my football, it is my home town where my friends and family are and a club where I have always dreamed of playing. There are not many players in this world who would not want to play for Barcelona.

“I have had many conversations with Arsène Wenger both in person and over the phone over the last few months and although the content of those conversations will remain private, the conclusion is that Barcelona have had two formal offers rejected by Arsenal.

“I am a professional and I fully understand that it is Arsenal’s prerogative not to sell me.

“I owe a lot to the Club, manager and the fans and I will respect their decision and will now concentrate on the new season ahead with Arsenal.

“I can assure all the fans that now the negotiations have ended I will be 100 percent focused on playing for Arsenal.

“I am an Arsenal player and as soon as I step out on to the pitch, that is the only club I will be thinking about.

“I am looking forward to the start of the season and putting this speculation behind me.”

Barcelona a marit oferta pentru Fabregas de la €35 M de acum cateva saptamani la €50 M potrivit ziarelor spaniole. Arsene Wenger a fost disperat in ultimele zile, incercand cu toate fortele sa il pastreze pe Fabregas pe Emirates. Ieri catalanul a trecut printre momente emotive, cand a vazut ca este nevoit sa poarte tricoul tunarilor la primul antrenament oficial, si s-a parut ca Barcelona a renuntat la el, dar azi catalanii au contra-atacat cu o oferta de €50 milioane.
Fabregas se va intalni la nationala Spaniei inainte de meciul amical cu Mexic, cu bunii sai prieteni Puyol, Pique sau Xavi. Barcelona va fi nevoita sa il aduca pe Fabregas inainte sa inceapa campionatul in Anglia, pentru ca le va ramane doar 2 saptamani pentru a pune echipa pe picioare inainte sa inceapa Primera Division. Fabregas nu a mai jucat un intreg meci pentru Arsenal de cand a fost accidentat in meciul contra Barcelona din Champions League in sezonul trecut.
