The Arsenal management are continuing their “Arsenalisation” of the Emirates Stadium, and the return of the famous clock was the next step, and now the stands are going to be renamed in line with the programme.

The club have just sent an official statement to me for passing on to all the Gooners, so here it is in full:

Arsenal Football Club is delighted to announce that the stands at Emirates Stadium are to be re-named for the start of the new Premier League season.

As part of the overall ‘Arsenalisation’ process currently taking place at Emirates Stadium, the Club has decided to re-introduce the names of the stands from Arsenal’s old stadium, Highbury.

From the first home Premier League match of the 2010/2011 season against Blackpool on Saturday 21st August, the stands at Emirates Stadium will be known as: Clock End, North Bank, East Stand and West Stand.

The existing quadrant colours on all maps and directional signage will be changed in time for the Blackpool match, to recognise the re-naming of the stands; and fans purchasing tickets for the match on Saturday 21st August, will also notice the relevant changes.

The Club is also proud to announce that new Clock End, which is at the south of the stadium, opposite the new North Bank, will be the home for a new Clock inside Emirates Stadium from next season.

Supporters will be able to see the new Clock in the stadium from the Emirates Cup, but the Club is planning an ‘official welcoming’ for the new Clock before the Blackpool match to commemorate this historic moment.

These developments are part of the process currently taking place at the stadium called ‘Arsenalisation’, in which the Club’s rich history is being celebrated through illustrating key players and moments through many initiatives, which are turning Emirates Stadium into a very visible stronghold of all things Arsenal.

All supporters are reminded that the new stand names and associated maps will come into effect from the Blackpool match on Saturday 21st August. Therefore, the existing quadrants will remain for both days of the Emirates Cup.

Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin is close to sealing a new contract extension with the Gunners, Gooner Talk understands.

The 29-year-old, who was linked with Barcelona in January, is expected to pen a 1-year extension which will see him stay at the club until 2013.

Despite fuelling speculation over his continuing links to Spain, the outspoken Russian, who joined Arsenal from Zenit St Petersburg in January 2009, has finally decided to show his commitment to the cause.

Last season, Arshavin scored 14 goals and made 9 assists.

Wojciech Szczesny wants to fight to be Arsenal's No 1 rather than spending another season on loan.

The Polish keeper enjoyed a fruitful six months with Brentford last term, earning himself a standing ovation from the Griffin Park faithful on the final day of the campaign.

The 20-year-old believes his performances have shown he is ready for a chance in the Arsenal first-team.

Arsène Wenger has already stated that the Gunners do not currently have a No 1 keeper and the manager said on Saturday that everyone has a chance "to show how good he is".

Szczesny wants to do just that and is not willing to give up his chance in favour of another loan move at the start of this season.

"I want to fight for my place, whatever that means," he told Arsenal.com after featuring against Barnet.

"I don't want to give up my place at Arsenal to go on loan. I went on loan last year, I have proved that I can do a job for Arsenal and now I want to see if I can really do it.

"If I get a chance to prove myself as an Arsenal No 1 then I will take my chances but I just want to get as many chances as I can and show everyone what I am made of.

"I think everybody has got the same target for the pre-season and that is get your place in the team and that is exactly what I am doing."

Szczesny made his Polish international debut last year and admits that if first-team football doesn't come to fruition at Arsenal, he may reconsider his position later in the season.

"If I don't have a chance to get regular football at Arsenal then I will have a chat with the boss and maybe they will put me on loan," he said. "But at the moment I am only focused on Arsenal."

Even throughout the shananigans that have been going on in recent months, I’ve not let my frustration and anger for Barcelona spill over to coach Pep Guardiola.

He’s always had my respect and conducts himself with the honour that one would hope for from a player of his quality.

But that has gone out of the window today.

I accept that he may well have been asked questions that he was not otherwise coached to answer more diplomatically, but surely if he wanted to, simply saying “this is a matter for the boards and not something I want to comment on” would suffice.

He did say that, of course, but not until he’d stirred it up again by putting the onus on Arsenal and to be honest, I’m getting fed up with it.

Le Boss said at the weekend that Cesc is not for sale, adding to the club statement a while back.

How many more ways or more ‘Cesc is staying at Arsenal’ comments do we have to make before they start listening and understand that they cannot have everything their own way.

Give us £80m and a couple of young players of our choice and maybe we can do business, but, oh, you’re skint, so you’ll have to do without I’m afraid.

This of course comes on the back of Carlos ‘soft rock Cyrano de Bergerac’ Puyol saying how Cesc told him for the last six weeks during the World Cup that he wants to sign for Barca.

Arsenal have got to make a stand here – and one to suit us, not Barca.

I sincerely hope Arsene Wenger says during his next contract negotiations that his decision to stay at the club depends on Cesc staying, unless our captain puts in a transfer request, which changes everything.

That would weaken our position considerably but it would also mean he doesn’t get all the signing on fees due to him and would make his departure even less harmonious than it might end up being if he goes this summer.

We need to keep Cesc not for one more season before letting him go next summer – which may provoke an Adebay-whore situation where his head is not in the right place and we don’t get full value from him on the field.

He is signed for a good few years yet – Arsenal need to hold him to that until we decide otherwise.

Did moving to Emirates mean anything to Arsenal?

If it did, it means we start playing with the big boys, not cow-towing to those who have had more recent success than us.

We are, after all, the Arsenal.

Newcastle United have beaten Celtic in an attempt to sign Sol Campbell on a free transfer.

The out-of-contract defender has failed to gain a new deal at Arsenal, prompting speculation that he will move to what will potentially be his last club before retirement.

The 35-year-old got married on Saturday and has moved to the North East. According to The Sunday Express, Campbell will sign for Chris Hughton’s side when he returns from his honeymoon. (Goal.com)

If indeed this source is correct then Chris Hughton has got himself something of a bargain. The 35 year old still has a season or two in the tank and he proved during his return to the Emirates that he can still perform at the highest level.

Польский вратарь, напомним, провел последние шесть месяцев в аренде в клубе "Брентфорд". Войцех сразу же закрепился на "Гриффин Роад", где каждый матч зарабатывал себе оглушительные овации болельщиков клуба.

20-летний игрок верит, что своими действиями в "Брентфорде" он доказал свою готовность сражаться за место в стартовом составе.

Арсен Венгер уже заявил, что в данный момент клуб не имеет основного голкипера, также отметив, равные шансы каждого из молодых вратарей. Щесны же желает реализовать свой шанс в течение текущей предсезонной подготовки.

"Я хочу бороться за место в составе, несмотря на мои шансы", - сказал поляк в интервью официальному сайту "Арсенала" после матча с "Барнетом".

"Я не теряю надежду на свое место в основном составе и не хочу вновь отправиться в аренду. Я уже играл в аренде, в прошлом сезоне, и доказал, что могу оказать огромную услугу "канонирам", и сейчас хотелось бы увидеть себя в составе клуба".

"Если я получу шанс на место голкипера №1 в "Арсенале", то я буду рисковать, дабы получить в будущем как можно больше таких же шансов и показать всем из чего я сделан", - сказал Щесны.

"Я думаю, что у всех есть единая цель в течение этой предсезонной подготовки - получить свое место в команде, чего я сейчас и добиваюсь".

Щесны дебютировал в составе первой команды "Арсенала" в прошлом году и он признает, что если не сможет закрепиться в составе, то может пересмотреть свою точку зрения по данному вопросу.

"Если я не буду получать постоянный игровой опыт в "Арсенале", то у меня будет разговор с руководством клуба о моей аренде. Но на данный момент я думаю, только об "Арсенале", - сказал Войцех Щесны.
