The Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole still hasn’t decided where he will be playing next season, but most of the rumours have suggested Arsenal or Tottenham are the front runners for his signature, especially since his agent said it was unlikely that he would move away from the Premiership, and that Cole would only move to a club in the Champions League.

Today Harry Redknapp had an interview with TalkSport, and said that he was keen on signing Cole, and thought he had as much chance as anyone.

He said: “You know he’s got lots of options, I think quite a few clubs want him,”

“I had a great relationship with him as a kid; I signed him when he was 11 years of age.

“As I said before he lived for football, he was the best schoolboy footballer I have ever seen without a doubt.

“He has still got that enthusiasm I think, but whether there is a chance of getting him, I feel there is a chance.

“I don’t think it will be easy, but I think we have got as good a chance as anybody.”

Cole set out the terms he was looking for just last week when he returned from the World Cup. He said: “The next contract I sign will be a footballing decision. I want to play in a more central position.

“I want a manager who has faith in me – and I’m talking about club football here.

“It is a big decision for me and my family but I’m open to anything at the moment.

“I have purposely not spoken to anyone while I’ve been here because that wouldn’t be fair on England.

“My phone has been turned off but now I want to sort it all out.”

With Redknapp’s long association with the player, and the glowing terms he has spoken of Cole. It would seem that he definitely has the faith that he desires. I can’t see Wenger matching Redknapp’s promises or the wages on offer, so my prediction is that Cole will be a Spurs player next season.

It has just been reported on FCLorient.net that the Lorient defender Laurent Koscielny is in London with his agent, Stephen Duck, and he will be confirmed as an Arsenal player imminently.

They say that the deal was agreed earlier this week for a club record fee of 12m euros (including bonuses, whatever that means), and on Wednesday he flew over with his agent to do the formal medical and to officially sign the contracts.

They have also reported that Lorient have signed Koscielny’s replacement, Bruno Ecuele Manga from Angers.

It is a cause for worry that Arsenal have still not made an announcement on their website, as they have already had two full days to go through all the formalities and make the move official.
