Руководство английской премьер-лиги отклонило просьбу «Фулхэма» перенести игру 38-го тура с «Арсеналом».

Обращение «Фулхэма» связано с тем, что спустя всего два дня после воскресной встречи состоится финальный матч Лиги Европы против «Атлетико». Клуб хотел перенести игру с «канонирами» на субботу, 8 мая.

Arsene Wenger has no doubt that Tottenham Hotsour fully deserve their place in the Champions League next season, but says they have no chance of overtaking Arsenal for the third automatic qualifying place.

Wenger said: “Yes of course, Spurs are in the Champions League on merit, you are never there by coincidence.

“They managed to beat us, to beat Chelsea, and also after a massive disappointment of losing the FA Cup semi-final.

“Straight away they had an opportunity to put it right against us and that brought up the level of confidence again, they have finished the season on a high.

“When you beat Arsenal, you beat Chelsea, you beat Manchester City, you deserve it.”

Wenger is aware that Fulham are likely to play a weakened side ahead of their Europa Cup Final against Atletico Madrid next week, but he believes his team just have to stay focused to stop Tottenham leapfrogging them on the last day of the season.

“Their focus could be elsewhere, but we are in a situation where we do not want to focus on any weakness from Fulham,” Wenger said.

“Let’s focus on our performance and make sure we turn up with the right attitude and I believe we will get the point or three points that we need.”

ROBERT PIRES will hope to bid a fond farewell to Villarreal fans tomorrow by helping his side claim a derby win over Valencia.

The Yellow Submarine need a win against their local rivals to boost their hopes of claiming a spot in the Europa League.

Former Arsenal star Pires, 36, has been told he will not be offered a new contract when his current deal expires this summer, so tomorrow's game will be his final appearance for Villarreal.

He said: "I'm going away very happy to have played in the Spanish league before I retired and I only have words of gratitude to this club and the fans. Life goes on and that's football.

"It's the club's decision and I respect it totally. I knew that some day my adventure at Villarreal would have to end.

"Of my future, I still don't know anything. Right now I'm focused on helping Villarreal and then I will go on holiday and will have time to think about which team I could play for."

France international Samir Nasri has reiterated his desire to stay at the Emirates.

The Arsenal star, who battled from an injury at the start of the present campaign, believes he can live up to his £12.5m price tag next season: "I have being a bit frustrated after missing the first few months when I broke my leg," he told Arsenal Tv Online.

"And really it is only the last couple of months where I have felt better physically.

"Now I hope to end the season well with the last game against Fulham and then get myself ready for next season because I really want to have a good one for Arsenal.

"After the first season, I wanted to kick on and do well, but unfortunately I got the injury which hampered my progress in adapting to English football.

"But I have come back ready for the next season and now I really hope all will go well for me."

Nasri believes there is no need to quit the club, on whose platform he plans to vie for a place in Raymond Domenech's France squad to the 2010 World Cup in South Africa this summer.

"I am happy to be here and want to stay. There is no need to go elsewhere, I am 22 and do not want to leave," he asserted.

"I am at a big European club, who are a real player in the Premier League and in Europe, with a manager who is one of the best in the World, and with great players too.

"There really is no need to move on or to look elsewhere."

The West Ham and England goalkeeper Robert Green is now at the top of Arsene Wenger’s shopping list this summer, according to a report in today’s News of the World.

The 30 year-old has told the new West Ham owners that he wants to leave, even before David Sullivan announced that the whole squad was up for sale, and the NOTW says that “initial talks have taken place” on the projected move.

Green has put himself in contention for a starting place for England at the World Cup Finals, and is considered to be the most reliable English keeper in the Premiership.

Arsenal have been linked with a massive list of goalkeepers, and most pundits now seem convinced that bringing in a new Number One is the main priority for Arsene Wenger this summer, and he saw exactly what Green can do when he pulled off an incredible save from Robin Van Persie to deny Arsenal the three points at Upton Park earlier this season.

So here we are: the final game of our season. It’s been an exciting journey, but one that’s ultimately ended in disappointment. Like a tour of London that ends in Tottenham. Speaking of our neighbours, it’s essential we win today: losing to Fulham could mean slipping behind Spurs to 4th.

It’s a measure of how much our season has petered out that Spurs can even contemplate finishing above us.  Whilst they have admittedly been in terrific form, beating us, Chelsea and City, the tightening of the gap is as much due to our dreadful run - we’ve now had just one win in eight games.  Ever since Kevin Phillips scored that late equaliser at St. Andrews, we haven’t looked right, and we’re now in a position where we’re vulnerable to the humiliating prospect of lagging behind our oldest enemy.

Fortunately we’re facing a Fulham side who’ll hopefully have their minds on Wednesday’s Europa Cup Final with Atletico Madrid.  They may even rest the majority of their first team.  The final is a momentous occasion for them, and shedding blood and sweat to win at the Emirates and claim a tenth place league finish is probably not top of their agenda right now.

I fully expect us to have enough in the tank to raise our game and beat the west Londoners.  After the lifeless displays against Wigan and Blackburn, the players owe it to the fans to give them a performance and a decent summer send-off.  The manager knows it too:

Former Arsenal defender Nigel Winterburn believes it is time for Arsene Wenger to buy, and to do it well ahead of next season.

In his column for the Islington Gazette, Winterburn explained how Arsene Wenger will not be moved by what people say about where he needs to strengthen but he needs to understand that a new goalkeeper is required as Manuel Almunia and Lukasz Fabianski are not a guarantee for the future.

According to the 46-year old, Juventus’ Gianluigi Buffon – who will not play Champions League football if he stays with the Turin club – is a great keeper who would make Arsenal fans happy. He also explained how this afternoon, winning against Fulham is on the cards, after which, the Frenchman is to start planning the new season.

The Gunners will indeed close their season in today’s 16:00 kick off at the Emirates, knowing that French defenders William Gallas and Mikael Silvestre are yet to commit for next season, meaning that the squad could lose two centre backs during the summer.

Вратарь сборной России, был, и является, давней целью "МЮ", но авторитетное Британское издание Sport утверждает, что "Арсенал", в январское трансферное окно, был очень близок к тому, чтобы подписать контракт с Акинфеевом.

Источник также сообщает, что сам Арсен Венгер в последнюю секунду не стал подписывать россиянина, причиной тому стало не согласованность некоторых деталей в контракте, стороны не успели договориться в январе.

Напомним, что ранее, голкипер ЦСКА, Игорь Акинфеев признавался, что "Арсенал" очень приятен ему: "Интерес со стороны столь титулованного клуба, известного во всем мире, мне очень приятен. Подобными предложениями, сами понимаете, не разбрасываются, оно не может не заинтересовать".

Стоит также напомнить, что Акинфеев родился 8 апреля 1986 года и его рост составляет 185 см.

Капитан команды утверждает, что для него этот сезон стал лучшим в составе "канониров" после того, как испанец перешёл в клуб в 2003 году. В конце кампании 2009-2010 во многом именно травма Сеска помешала "Арсеналу" завоевать чемпионский титул.

Фабрегас завершил сезон 19-тью голами в 36 матчах, забив на 7 мячей больше, чем Никлас Бендтнер с Андреем Аршавиным и на 9 - чем Робин ван Перси. На протяжении всей кампании испанец являлся неотъемлемой частью команды, помог забить ей 83 гола в чемпионате, а его имя постоянно всплывало в различных таблоидах, которые упорно сватали его в "Барселону".

"Я думаю, что провел много хороших лет с того момента, как присоединился к "канонирам", но этот сезон определённо лучший для меня в личном плане", - сказал Сеск.

"Но для команды кампания снова получилась разочаровывающей, ведь мы не выиграли никаких трофеев. Полагаю, я бы мог помочь команде больше, если бы не эти неприятные травмы подколенного сухожилия, которые преследовали меня весь сезон".

"Моё восстановление после трещины в малоберцовой кости идет по плану. Я уже начал делать пробежки. Мне нужно всего лишь быть терпеливым".

"24 мая присоединюсь к сборной Испании и, наверное, смогу сыграть с Саудовской Аравией 29 мая. К чемпионату мира я буду готов".

Робин ван Перси рад подписанию контракта с Шамахом, и считает, что марокканец станет ключевым игроком в "Арсенале".

"Я знаю Шамаха только по играм, которые я смотрел по телевизору. Он силён в борьбе на втором этаже. Маруан выглядит очень уверенно и совершает много точных и обостряющих передач. Покупки игроков такого уровня для нас очень хороши, ведь это увеличивает конкуренцию, а она всегда была не лишней в футболе. Счастлив видеть Шамаха в команде", - сказал голландский нападающий.

"В этом сезоне у нас были и плохие, и хорошие игры, но команде в чём-то не везло. Может быть, нам требуется время, чтобы наладить игровые связи. Нам не повезло с многочисленными травмами игроков, которые играют центральную роль в команде".

"Сеск, Альмуния и Галлас являются для "Арсенала" ключевыми футболистами. Возможно, мы могли бы справиться лучше и без них".
