Ferguson says Rooney will not be joining Real Madrid

Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has rubbished reports that Wayne Rooney could join Real Madrid at the end of the season.

On Friday The Sun newspaper said Real will bid £90m for the England striker, 24, and offer him £250,000 a week.

"It's the silly season isn't it," said Ferguson. "It always happens at the end of the season. Wayne Rooney will still be here next year."

The Scot added that Rooney could be fit to face Manchester City on Saturday.

Rooney has been struggling with an ankle problem he aggravated in the second leg of last week's Champions League clash against Bayern Munich, but has trained this week.

"He has done some work over the last couple of days and we will see how he is for Saturday's game," said Ferguson, who also confirmed Ryan Giggs and Rio Ferdinand have an outside chance of being involved at Eastlands.

Owen Hargreaves is set to be included in United's squad, meaning the midfielder could make his first senior appearance in almost 20 months.

Hargreaves' fitness is one of the matters Ferguson will give thought to this summer as he looks to reshape a squad that has already been bolstered by the signings of Javier Hernandez and Chris Smalling, with more set to follow.

"We have a reasonable structure here. There is nothing wrong with it," said Ferguson. "We may look at one or two things, but nothing serious.

"It is important not to confuse us with others who have much more buying power. We do not need to worry about them.

"It was the same with Chelsea. We didn't bother ourselves when they were buying. We just try to concentrate on what we are doing."

With United still in the title hunt and fourth-placed City looking to secure a Champions League place, Ferguson called Saturday's match "the most significant derby for a long time".

"City are trying to get into the Champions League for the first time in their history," he said.

"It is the first time since I have been manager that we are facing City when they have a genuine chance of achieving something."

Manchester urmeaza sa primeasca 90 de milioane, iar atacantul un salariu de 250.000 de lire sterline pe saptamana timp de cinci ani.

Florentino Perez il vrea la carma echipei pe Fabio Capello, care a luat de doua ori campionatul fiind antrenor la Real. Capello are contract cu Anglia pana in 2012, insa asta nu-l va opri cu siguranta pe Florentino.

Rooney mai are doi ani de contract cu United si inca nu si-a prelungit intelegerea. Manchester va trebui sa-i ofere atacantului sau un salariu peste ce ofera Realul, mai ales ca in Anglia Rooney va trebui sa plateasca un impozit de 50%.

Paul Scholes Signs Contract Extension

Paul Scholes has signed a contract extension which will keep him at Manchester United until 2011.

“I am pleased to have signed for another year,” said Scholes. “I am feeling good and enjoying my football. I would like to thank the boss, the coaching staff and also the fans for their continued support.”

His performances this season have been hit and miss, but I suppose that is more a reflection on his performances towards the end of the season. He has played more than he should because of injuries to Anderson and Owen Hargreaves, so we should see the consistent best from him next season when he is hopefully used more sparingly. Although we shouldn’t forget that this season he has scored in the League Cup semi-final against City, against AC Milan, and scored the winners against Wolves and Besiktas.

With Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes both signing contract extensions this season, it does raise serious questions as to whether Gary Neville will be offered a new deal. He insists that there is no need to be distracted by contract discussions mid-season, something the boss has agreed with, but it seems the club had no problem with ‘distracting’ Giggs and Scholes.

The Sun claims Real Madrid will spend a whopping £150 million to poach Wayne Rooney off Manchester United - and will take back England boss Fabio Capello in the process.

Real chief Florentino Perez has made no secret of his admiration for the England striker and - while United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is hardly Los Merengues’ biggest fan - a £90m cash offer would be too much for the Glazers to refuse.

Madrid would also pay Roo a staggering £250,000-a-week at the special 25 per cent tax rate afforded foreign professionals in Spain, making it more like an 'English' £400k-a-week.

The Liverpudlian would link-up with former team-mate Cristiano Ronaldo - and national team coach Capello, although Paper Round finds this one a little far-fetched given that Madrid have already sacked the Italian twice despite winning the league in both seasons there.

The Sun’s report insists that Florentino has learnt his lesson and wants a disciplinarian to mould a team of winners - but PR is sure Fabio has learnt his and will not countenance such a move.

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is set to finally bow to pressure and add experience to his youthful squad, with Fulham’s Brede Hangeland top of his list.
