The club have claimed that Terry was only driving at 1-2mph in his 4×4, but then, the club also claim that the man only “badly bruised” his leg, whilst the police reveal the leg was actually broken.

The police also reveal that Terry drove off without stopping and that he was later breathalysed. Inquiries into the incident continue.

It really hasn’t been the best year for “JT”… and it’s only March! My heart bleeds. )))

Wayne can surpass Ronaldo

Former Reds striker Andrew Cole reckons Wayne Rooney has every chance of bettering Cristiano Ronaldo’s 42-goal haul of two seasons ago.

Rooney’s well-taken brace against Fulham on Sunday took him to 32 for the season and he has a possible 13 more games in which to overhaul the Portuguese winger's 2007/08 tally.

Cole believes the mark won’t be at the forefront of Rooney’s mind, but that the striker is now in a great position to achieve a feat which seemed improbable only a few weeks ago.

“Wayne’s priority will be trying to win the Premier League again, and to fire United to another European Cup, so it won’t be top of his agenda,” Cole told ManUtd.com.

“But there are eight league games to go and if he keeps scoring at his current rate, he’s got a great chance.”

Rooney has hit 24 goals in the last 22 games of United’s three-pronged trophy assault. And as a former striker himself, it’s apparent to Cole that the Reds’ number 10 is playing with supreme confidence – an ominous sign for any opposition defence.

Cole said: “It’s hard to know what else to say about the boy! He must go out there every game, look at who he’s up against and believe he has a good chance of scoring.

“It’s great to go into games thinking that, because football is all about confidence, especially for strikers.
“He’s playing some great football and has been very consistent. He’s in a fantastic vein of form and long may it continue.”

With only two points separating the top three, it’s shaping up to be the a thrilling finish to the title race. But Cole believes United’s Premier League pedigree could give the champions the edge over Chelsea and Arsenal.

“It’s always important to have experience of title races, because it feels like familiar ground,” Cole added. “Mentally and physically you know what it’s going to take out of you.

“United’s players definitely thrive on the pressure – that’s why they are playing at one of the biggest clubs in the world.

"The title race is hotting up and could go down to the wire, but I think United have more than enough in the locker to go on and win it.”

Tottenham Hotspur manager Harry Redknapp believes that Inter will falter if they run into Manchester United in the Champions League.

The Nerazzurri coach Jose Mourinho recently masterminded a victory over old foe and current Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti, which dumped the Stamford Bridge club out of the European competition.

The manner of the victory over the Portuguese tactician's former club earned him several plaudits, but Redknapp remains convinced the Biscion boss still has some way to slither before being spoken of in the same breath as United counterpart Ferguson.

"Jose Mourinho may be the self-appointed 'Special One' but he is not yet 'The Greatest'," Redknapp wrote in a column for The Sun.

"Fantastic result and performance by Inter Milan on Tuesday night to knock Chelsea out of the Champions League.

"But I do not see him winning it this season and I think they would lose over two legs to Manchester United if the teams get drawn together tomorrow for the quarter-finals.

"At the moment, United have too much flair for Inter to handle.

"They also have Wayne Rooney in such amazing form that he is virtually unstoppable - especially by the Italians.

"That brings you on to the debate on the two managers.

"There is no doubt that Mourinho is catching up with Alex Ferguson as far as reputation and achievement go in management. They are my one-two in the managerial world.

"Fergie is king of the castle in England particularly. Mourinho has not got close to what Old Trafford's emperor has won in the Premier League."

The outspoken manager has been linked with a move away from the San Siro in the recent past, with Manchester City, Liverpool, and Real Madrid being spoken of as likely destinations.

"I also believe Mourinho will end up going to Spain to manage Real Madrid and become the first person to win a league title in all three countries," added Spurs' gaffer.

"Mourinho has time on his side, too, to try to overtake Ferguson. But right now, I think my opinion that United would beat Inter says enough about both men."

Manchester United left-back Patrice Evra is "number one" in his position in the world, according to one of his predecessors at Old Trafford, Denis Irwin.

The former Republic of Ireland international enjoyed a 12-year career with United, collecting a Champions League winners medal in 1999 and making 529 appearances for the Old Trafford club.

Versatile enough to play on either side of the back four, Irwin knows what he's talking about when it comes to playing full-back, and he rates the United man as having been better than Chelsea's Ashley Cole over the course of this campaign.

"Patrice is the number one," said Irwin.

"Ashley Cole has improved an awful lot this season. But Patrice has come on a lot too and this year has been his best."

Indeed, Irwin rates Evra's impact on the team as being more important than that of even star striker Wayne Rooney.

"Wayne Rooney has been tremendous, particularly over the past three months," he added.

"But Patrice Evra has been every bit as good. He has been very consistent at a really high level.

"Regardless of what Wayne has done, Patrice has been our player of the season. Unfortunately for full-backs, centre-forwards get all the glory because they score goals."

Evra has adapted well to England since joining United from Monaco for £5million four years ago. He struggled with the pace of the game in England at first but adjusted quickly.

"He came in a January, at the same time as Nemanja Vidic, and they both struggled," recalled Irwin.

"The Premier League was totally different to the league he was playing in. It is a different culture, different weather, different everything.

"You have to get used to all that. But since that first couple of games he has come on leaps and bounds.

"He always looked good going forward but defensively Patrice has improved an awful lot."
