Мы потратили 15 млн фунтов на покупку Антонио Валенсии, но у нас также есть в банке 100 млн фунтов».

Что касается клубного долга, то Гилл назвал цифру в 716 млн фунтов, обнародованную в прессе, «заблуждением». «По состоянию на пятницу (30 января) мы должны наличными 140 млн фунтов, а в целом сумма нашего долга чистыми составляет 360 млн фунтов», - приводит слова Гилла The Sun.

Villa linked with shock raid on Old Trafford

According to reports in the Metro, Aston Villa could make a deadline day move for Manchester United striker Michael Owen. The 29-year-old former Liverpool forward is desperate to secure a place in Fabio Capello’s World Cup squad but is currently a bit-part payer under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Reports today intimate Aston Villa manager Martin O’Neill could make a last minute effort to sign the England international in a bid to help fire the club into the top four. Tabloid reports over the weekend suggested Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson would sell Owen in the summer, despite being halfway through a two year deal. The Times newspaper have also suggested Owen could be one of the most high-profile players to move in this window, although they suggest a move is unlikely despite the growing speculation.

The form of Wayne Rooney has meant Sir Alex Ferguson has been reluctant to pair he and Owen together for Manchester United, not least because the former has emerged as a natural goal scorer. His well taken goal against Arsenal on Sunday was his twentieth league goal of an already prolific campaign at Old Trafford. Such is Rooney’s potency, Owen has mostly been given a watching brief and as a result the player has been linked with a move away amid reputed interest from Aston Villa.

Manchester United signed Owen on a free in the summer, but despite his undoubted pedigree the 29-year-old has only featured sparingly for the Premier League champions. The former Real Madrid and Newcastle United star has scored seven goals for Manchester United, most notably a stoppage time winner against Manchester City and a hattrick against German champions Wolfsburg.

Manchester United In Last-Minute Bid To Snare Racing Sensation Sergio Canales

Premier League giants Manchester United are set for a late transfer window swoop to secure the services of Racing Santander teenager Sergio Canales, according to reports from England.

The Sunday People reports that Sir Alex Ferguson is aware that Real Madrid are thought to be close to a deal for the prodigious youngster, and is looking to hijack any proposed deal Los Blancos have in place.

Canales has been one of the stars of the La Liga season, and came to prominence after two stunning goals helped Racing to a 2-1 win away to Sevilla last month.

He is out of contract at the end of the season, and it is thought that any deal would involve Canales being loaned back to Racing for a season in order to gather first-team experience.

Ferguson is allegedly staging a meeting with Canales and his father Angel in order to discuss the possibility of a move to England. It is also thought that the 18-year old would be open to a move to the Red Devils.

Canales has been capped at international level by Spain from under 16 through to under 19, and recently Vicente del Bosque, coach of the senior side, hinted that he may be ready to give him his first full cap in the build up to the World Cup in South Africa.
