Manchester United have handed a trial to Swedish starlet Linus Sjoberg.

The 15-year-old midfielder is currently with Vasteras but he has been spotted by United's Scandinavian scouting network.

The Premier League champions have now made an offer and Sjoberg is expected to link up with United on trial later this summer.

"You have to be cautious dealing with the social and footballing parts as the social environment is important when you are younger," agent Martin Klette told Fotbollskanalen.

"There are both good and bad foreign clubs as there are good and bad Swedish clubs.

"People have a tendency to focus on younger players that have had problems abroad and forget that there are very good clubs to grow in abroad."

Manchester United are set to approach Valencia for Spain international David Villa. Despite Sir Alex Ferguson calling an end to transfer dealing after the arrival of Luis Antonio Valencia, the United hierarchy will pay up to £25million for the 23-year-old's signature. The deal for Villa could be tied up before the two teams meet at Old Trafford on Wednesday in a friendly. Liverpool have also been linked with the midfielder, and Ferguson would enjoy a pre-season coup against United's great rivals. The versatile midfielder would add guile to a United side devoid of Cristiano Ronaldo, while rumours persist about the future of Silva's team-mate at the Mestalla, David Villa. It is unlikely that Ferguson will break the bank on the striker, however, with Villa unlikely to leave his native Spain.

In other news, United have denied any wrongdoing over the signing of Le Havre wonderkid Paul Pogba after the French club’s president claimed they had acted “lamentably” to secure the 15-year-old’s transfer. United are adamant the signing was conducted entirely in accordance with FIFA and UEFA regulations, with a club spokesman calling the claims “nonsense.”
