TRAGEDIE pentru Sir Alex! Un accident de masina i-a stricat sarbatoarea cu Arsenal

Managerul lui Manchester nu s-a putut bucura prea mult de victoria zdrobitoare cu Arsenal din semifinalele Ligii.

Cu cateva ore inainte de meci, doi nepoti ai lui Sir Alex au fost implicati intr-un grav accident de masina, informeaza TheSun.

Vestea a picat ca o bomba peste managerul lui Manchester, care a trebuit sa isi tina emotiile sub control, pentru a putea fi conectat 100% la intalnirea cu Arsenal.

Charlie Ferguson, de 10 ani si sora sa, Grace, de 6 ani, sunt cei doi nepoti ai lui Sir Alex, implicati in tragicul accident auto.

Din fericire pentru Sir Alex si familia sa, cei doi copii au supravietuit.

Manchester United s-a calificat in finala UEFA Champions League, aseara, dupa 3-1 pe Emirates in returul cu Arsenal.

Dupa meci, Ferguson a declarat: "Inceputul de meci a facut diferenta. Arsenal a inceput agresiv, dar noi am reusit sa marcam repede doua goluri, astfel ca le-am taiat elanul.

"Cei de la Arsenal nu au reusit sa-l opreasca pe Cristiano Ronaldo. Mijlocul nostru s-a comportat bine, insa aveam nevoie de un jucator pentru a face diferenta.

"Ronaldo este un jucator fantastic. Toata echipa a fost, de altfel, fantastica"

"Acum avem o noua sansa. Avem calitatile si dorinta de a realiza acest lucru. Acesti jucatori nu m-au dezamagit niciodata in momentele dificile", a declarat Sir Alex.

Wenger: The best team won

Arsene Wenger was in downbeat, but magnanimous mood after his Arsenal side were dumped out of the Champions League by United.

The Gunners manager was in confident mood ahead of Tuesday's semi-final decider at the Emirates, but his young side were blown away as the Reds strode through to this month's final in Rome.

"Manchester United over the two games deserved to go through," Wenger told his post-match press conference. "It could have been over after the first game. We had a good opportunity to come back but overall they were the better side."

Wenger cited the loss of two early goals and the performance of Cristiano Ronaldo as the main reasons behind his side's exit, although he admitted United's European experience was also a telling factor.

"It's easy to say we maybe need a bit of experience," he said. "I'm convinced that we have the quality and we will continue to develop. If you look at the average age of the team it is still very young and to reach the level we have deserves a lot of credit.

"But we were caught by a team that has an art to kill and take advantage of every mistake you make. I believe Ronaldo gave us a tough time."

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson hopes referee Roberto Rosetti will concede it was a mistake to send off Darren Fletcher against Arsenal.

Fletcher was given a straight red card for an adjudged foul on Cesc Fabregas in the box as United won the second leg of the Champions League semi-final 3-1.

The midfielder will miss the final unless the official admits to an error.

"In respect to the referee he might look at it himself without anyone asking him," said Ferguson.

"You can see the ball has moved in a different direction but we shouldn't ask him. He's competent and fair enough to look at it himself possibly. Apparently, you can't appeal and if that's the case it's disappointing for the boy.

"Darren's one of the most honest players in the game and to miss the final is a tragedy."

Uefa can rescind the red card if requested to do so by Italian referee Rosetti, although such instances are very rare, according to BBC sports news correspondent James Pearce.

He said: "Uefa will receive the referee's report on Wednesday. In theory, he can say in the report that he made a mistake and Fletcher should not have been sent off.

"Normally that would only happen with a case of mistaken identity but Uefa says he would be able to admit the error, so Fletcher will only know for definite if he is suspended from the final when the referee submits his match report."

Arsenal manager Arsenal Wenger also insisted the red card was "very harsh" after television pictures clearly showed Fletcher played the ball cleanly.

However, it would now take an unprecedented decision by Uefa to earn Fletcher a reprieve from suspension for the final on 27 May.

The incident was the only sour note for United on the night as they outplayed the Gunners to seal a 4-1 aggregate win and book a place in their second successive Champions League final.

United arrived at the Emirates Stadium holding a slender 1-0 lead from last week's first leg but United scored twice in the first 11 minutes through Park and a stunning Cristiano Ronaldo free-kick to put them firmly in control.

"We got a good start and that made the difference," stated Ferguson. "The two quick goals knocked the wind out of their sails and wherever you play teams can't recover from that."

Arsenal tried to force their way back into the game but were floored by Ronaldo's second goal of the game in the 61st minute.

"I thought they couldn't handle Ronaldo. That made a big difference," added Ferguson.

United now face the winner of Wednesday's tie between Chelsea and Barcelona, with the first leg in Spain ending goalless.

However, Ferguson feels the hunger of his players to win the competition means the team they face is a moot issue.

"We should have this cup more times than we have," said Ferguson. "This is another opportunity for us to do so.

"I think we have the quality, the energy and the ambition to do it. It's a hungry team and when the chips are down they don't let me down."
