last some good news for United fans as it was confirmed late last night that Rio Ferdinand has not broken a bone in his foot.

United will be without Rio for at least two weeks and many club insiders feel with the right treatment he could even be back for the away trip to Blackburn on the 19th April.

Sir Alex knows it's going to be tough without Ferdinand and Vidic but with Rio hopefully only missing two games and Vidic hopefully back for Chelsea, the title dream is still alive.

The math is simple. If we can win our next three league games, we'll be crowned Champions on goal difference.

As we saw on Saturday though, United aren't as defensively strong without Vidic. The giant Serb has been a rock this season and brings out the best of defensive partner Rio.

Season is over for Cech after horrific facial injury

Petr Cech has been ruled out for the rest of the season after a horrific training-ground injury left him needing 50 stitches in a facial wound.

Sportsmail can reveal that the Chelsea goalkeeper, who would have returned to the team for this evening's Champions League quarter-final tie against Fenerbahce, suffered the injury in a collision with Tal Ben Haim during training on Sunday.

Chelsea also fear that they will be without Michael Essien at Stamford Bridge after he limped out of training on Monday night with a back injury. He will be assessed again on Tuesday afternoon.

Cech was wearing his skull cap at the time the incident happened but it offered no protection as the wound was on the part of his face which is not covered.

His stunned team-mates, who feared a repeat of the horrific head injury he suffered during a clash with Reading midfielder Stephen Hunt last season, immediately called for Chelsea doctor Bryan English.

Cech was taken to the Saint John-Saint Elizabeth Hospital in London for surgery on a laceration that a Chelsea source disclosed yesterday 'went right to the jaw bone'.

The Chelsea keeper had 30 stitches sewn in the deepest area of the wound that stretches from his bottom lip to his chin, a further 20 on the outside of his face and also required plastic surgery 'for aesthetic reasons'.

Although Chelsea coach Avram Grant claimed that he expected Cech to return to first-team action within two weeks, it is feared that he may even miss Euro 2008 with the Czech Republic.

Sportsmail understands that English is taking advice from boxing experts on the recovery time and the worst-case scenario for an injury this serious is six months on the treatment table.

Grant said: 'I don't feel good about it. Every injured player does not make me happy and he was more than a bit unlucky with injuries this year already.

'He was great in training on Sunday, but it was a tackle between two players. He was very unlucky to get the injury and we think he will be out for another two weeks.'

Cech, who played a huge part in their consecutive Premiership triumphs under Joe Mourinho, has already been on the sidelines for a large part of this season.

He missed five games in November and December with a hip complaint, four in December and January with a side strain and has been ruled out of the last six with an ankle problem.

Although he is currently at home recovering, he has been told not to rush back into action and is highly unlikely to play again this season.

Rio boost for Reds

United have been boosted by the news that Rio Ferdinand could be fit to face Roma in Wednesday's Champions League quarter-final second leg at Old Trafford.

Ferdinand limped out of Sunday's 2-2 draw at Middlesbrough, but a scan on Monday confirmed he had not suffered a broken foot. Rio missed training on Tuesday morning to have treatment on the injury, prompting suggestions that he would not be fit to face the Italians.

However, Sir Alex Ferguson says the influential centre-back is still in contention as United look to capitalise on a 2-0 first-leg win and book a place in the semi finals.

“We hope he is going to play,” said the Reds boss. “His scan was clear, which is good news. We hope that we can get him fit for the game."

Ferdinand will undergo a fitness test on Wednesday morning, when the decision will be taken whether to play the 29-year-old. Sir Alex added: “The players report to us at 11 o’clock on Wednesday morning, so he will have to do something then.”

There was further good news as the United manager revealed that Gary Neville and Mikael Silvestre will both be involved in the squad, with one perhaps making the starting line-up.

Не уверен. Не обязательно в Реал это как минимум. Хотя выбора у него наверное немного будет.
Всё-таки если ты романтик, то до конца веришь что он всё-таки примет единственно правильное решение.
Впрочем всегда писал что понять его будет не так уж и трудно. С тем отношением которое он получает в Англии. С тем климатом и тд и тп.
Но 80 лимонафф мало, господа из Реала. Начинать будем с 100-ни, как минимум.

Real Madrid sports chief Pedja Mijatovic has twice held talks with the agent of Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo in the last week.

Marca says Mijatovic was in London yesterday to meet with Jorge Mendes, barely a week after seeing the Portuguese super agent in Rome.

Mijatovic has been seeking updates on Ronaldo's situation at United and it's understood Mendes has made it clear his client wants to stay at Old Trafford next season.
