Charlton names United greatest 11

LONDON, Aug 27, 2007 (AFP) - British football legend Bobby Charlton has named his greatest ever Manchester United team in his autobiography being serialised in the Times newspaper.

Charlton picked a best 11 from the 1950s to the present day but found no place for himself in the side.

There was also no place for current stars such as Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo.

But United legends such as George Best, Eric Cantona and Peter Schmeichel, as well as current captain Gary Neville, did make the cut.

"There is one place that is automatic. It is the one that belongs to Schmeichel," says Charlton.

Charlton's defence comprised Neville, Denis Irwin, Gary Pallister and the normally combative midfielder Nobby Stiles.

The midfield has Duncan Edwards, who died tragically in the Munich air disaster of 1958, Bryan Robson, Roy Keane and Best.

Up front he chose Cantona alongside his great friend and former team-mate Denis Law.

Crerand: Ole is a United great

United legend Paddy Crerand says Ole Gunnar Solskjaer deserves to be ranked alongside the likes of Best, Law and Charlton as one of the club's true greats.

The 34-year-old striker announced his retirement from the game on Tuesday following a lengthy injury battle which has restricted his involvement in the first team over the last few years.

Like many fans, Crerand is sad to see Solskjaer's illustrious Old Trafford career come to a premature end, but the 1968 European Cup winner insists there is no chance of the man dubbed 'the baby-faced assassin' being forgotten.

"Ole is a man who is respected and loved by everyone at Old Trafford and, as far as I’m concerned, he’s up there with the likes of Law, Best and Charlton as one of the legendary figures in United’s history," Paddy told United Review.

"Of course, that goal in Barcelona in ‘99 is the one that everyone will always remember him for, but we mustn’t forget all the important goals he scored throughout his Reds’ career."

Solskjaer will remain at Old Trafford in a coaching capacity and as a club ambassador, and Crerand fully expects the Norwegian to become a successful coach.

"He's got unvaluable experience of playing at the top level and winning trophies and that will only benefit him as a coach," says Paddy. "Ole has done things for Manchester United that people only dream about. Hopefully he'll now be able to help others realise their dreams."

Sevilla left back Antonio Puerta has died in hospital after suffering two heart attacks during his side's Primera Division match against Getafe on Saturday evening.

The 22-year-old collapsed midway through the first half, and though he managed to walk off the pitch and down the tunnel, he then collapsed again and was rushed to hospital.

Doctors at the Virgen del Rocio hospital in Seville, where Puerta remained in a critical condition, admitted their worries were growing due to the length of his cardiac arrest and the damaged it caused his internal organs.

He was pronounced dead on Tuesday afternoon, just hours before his club were scheduled to take on AEK Athens in a Champions League qualifier. The match has now been postponed.

Puerta was seen as one of the major rising stars in Spanish football after helping Sevilla to successive UEFA Cup wins in the past two seasons. He made Liga 66 appearances for the Rojiblancos, and won one cap with the Spanish national team.

daca vom avea macar 3 sau 4 jucatori ca Ole care sa-si iubeasca clubul in asa masura,vom fi campioni intodeauna.
in 99 cind ne-a ajutat in liga campionilor,a primit oferte de la multe cluburi, care ii garantau loc de titular,dar el a ramas la ManUtd.
dar nu-l vom uita niciodata.

Carling Cup - Clarke "heart stopped"

Clive Clarke's agent has revealed "paramedics had to use a defibrillator" after the Leicester defender collapsed at half-time in the Carling Cup tie at Nottingham Forest.

The second-round clash was abandoned at the break after the 27-year-old had lost consciousness in the dressing room.

Clarke, who joined the Foxes on loan from Sunderland earlier this month, received treatment from paramedics at the City Ground but regained consciousness and was taken to hospital in Nottingham.

Agent Gary Mellor told BBC Radio Stoke: "Clive is sitting up and talking and he is going to have more tests at the hospital.

"They won't give us any idea as to when he will be released. They don't want to tell us any more until they know exactly what happened.

"It appears Clive's heart stopped twice and mouth-to-mouth didn't work so the paramedics had to use a defibrillator.

"His family are very upset, especially after what happened with the Sevilla player Antonio Puerta dying recently. We just hope he's going to be OK."

Leicester manager Martin Allen paid tribute to the club's medical staff.

He told the club's official website: "I must say [head physio] Dave Rennie and [sports scientist] Damien Doyle were absolutely outstanding in coping and dealing with what was a traumatic and difficult situation.

"We are lucky both members of staff were on hand at such a difficult and testing time."

Foxes chief executive Tim Davies said his "thoughts and prayers" were with Clarke and his family.

Davies, who described Clarke as "very seriously ill", said no one at the club was aware of the player suffering from any medical condition.

He said: "When Clive went into the dressing room he collapsed and was very seriously ill. This is the first time we are aware of anything happening to Clive. He was taken away in an ambulance to hospital. He did offer a few words in the ambulance.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with Clive and his family, we hope he makes a speedy recovery."

Nu stiu de ce, dar am impresia ca e vreo noua formula de dopaj sau ceva de genul acesta si efectul pe care il are asupra inimii e doar un rezultat fie al supradozajului sau o reactie adversa.

Sunt prea multe cazuri de atac de cord la barbati atit de tineri si de sanatosi. Nu cred ca e doar o coincidenta...
