London, Jan 6 : Nicklas Bendtner was arrested after he got into a fight in the early hours of Thursday at a luxury hotel in Gateshead, England.

The 23-year-old Sunderland ace was held by cops who were called to the bust-up at the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead. The Denmark international striker, who is currently on bail for an alleged car wrecking spree in Newcastle, was held with another 23-year-old before being released. Police said they chose not to bring charges against Bendtner after investigating the incident.

“At 2.18am on Thursday, September 13, police received a report of a fight at the Hilton Hotel in Gateshead,” the Sun quoted a police spokesman as saying.

“Officers attended and two men aged 23 were arrested to prevent continued breach of the peace. After investigations, both men were released without charge,” he said.

It is the second time in a matter of months that the footballer has been arrested. He was held with Sunderland teammate Lee Cattermole after cars were said to have been damaged near the ground of their club’s arch rivals. Several vehicles were reportedly damaged on December 6 just yards from the St James’ Park home of Newcastle United. Last year it was claimed that Bendtner caused havoc in a Copenhagen pizza shop after his credit cards were rejected. (ANI)

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill has insisted he has had no contact from Arsenal over versatile midfielder Kieran Richardson.

Reports this week have suggested the former Manchester United man could be a January target for the Gunners, but the Black Cats are yet to receive any approach.

O'Neill said: "Arsenal have not been in touch with me, I don't know anything about it.

"I asked the chief executive as well and she said no, there hasn't been anybody in touch yet.

"But what I have said is that I would keep players informed about what is happening.

"Obviously, I don't want to rush players to leave the football club. I would rather think about stabilising things here, and hopefully we can try to progress from there.

"But regardless of whether you are going to be doing business or not, you are going to be linked with players, clubs are going to be linked with some of our players, and at this minute we are hanging in there."

O'Neill has studiously avoided revealing his own recruitment plans for this month, insisting on the day he was unveiled that a transfer kitty was never discussed during his talks with owner and chairman Ellis Short.

Fiorentina are reportedly thinking about making a loan bid for Arsenal striker Marouane Chamakh.

The Viola, now bossed by Delio Rossi, are in the market for a new forward after selling Italian international Alberto Gilardino to Genoa this week.

Despite interest in Amauri of Juventus and Catania’s Maxi Lopez, the Premier League based player is also on the shortlist of sporting director Pantaleo Corvino.

The official wants to take the forward on a temporary basis with an option to buy at the end of the campaign.
