The Spaniard has been heavily linked with the manager's job at Italian side Juventus.

But his representative Manuel Garcia Quilon said: "We have not received any offers from any club.

"Benitez's aim is to remain at Liverpool and try to help the team improve with new owners.

"He is under contract and his wish is to remain at Liverpool."

Liverpool suffered a torrid season after failing to finish in the Premier League's top four.

They were also dumped out of the Champions League at the group stages before losing to Atletico Madrid in the semi-finals of the Europa League.

However, many Reds fans have kept faith in Benitez despite constant rumours of moves to Real Madrid and Juve.

It is a momentous week in Liverpool Football Club’s history. It is a week that will shape the entire future of this great institution.

It is the week when, as a Liverpool fan, you will have to make a decision about what where your loyalties really lie, because the decisions of manager Rafa Benitez are likely to polarise opinions as never before.

Already on this site, my colleague Guillem Balague has alluded to the fact that the Liverpool manager believes Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard and Javier Mascherano all want to leave Anfield.

It is true. Benitez is convinced, in particular, that Torres and Gerrard will depart, because of the failures of this season, and also because of their deteriorating relationship with him.

Ever the pragmatist, Rafa is prepared to address the situation full on, and so he will go to the board and offer them a scenario which would see him pledge his own future to Liverpool, and turn down the advances of Juventus.

It is this: Allow Torres and Gerrard to leave, and allow him to spend every single penny of the money that generates - perhaps £100million – on rebuilding the Anfield squad.

The meeting is likely to take place within the next 48 hours, and Rafa will make his position very clear. Either he gets assurances ALL of that money will be reinvested on players, or he quits.

But here’s the rub, and here’s where, as a Liverpool fan, you may well be forced to search deep into your soul and answer a question that is uncomfortable, and deeply troubling.

If Benitez stays, then it increases the chances of Torres and Gerrard leaving. It may come as a shock to some Liverpool fans, but it is a truth that most people around the club now accept, including the manager himself.

For his part, Benitez is convinced that Torres in particular will express a desire to leave, no matter who the manager is. He doesn’t think that if he quits, the striker will change his mind and decide to stay. And he may be right.

Torres IS disillusioned, he doesn’t fancy the prospect of Europa League football next season, and if there is no evidence that there will be major investment in the squad then he WILL go.

But when new chairman Martin Broughton meets Benitez this week, he will have to consider another scenario, which is becoming plain to everyone around Anfield.

The message coming from the players themselves, from Torres and from Gerrard is increasingly clear. Their future is not tied up with that of Benitez, they will not go with him if he leaves. Far from it.

People assume that because he is Spanish and is a Benitez signing, Torres would follow his manager anywhere. In fact, those people closest to the striker say the opposite. As Guillem said on these pages – and he knows a thing or two about Spanish football – “Fernando Torres’ future is not linked to Rafa’s”.

Torres and Gerrard want a better Liverpool, with a stronger squad and a more attractive playing style. They have both openly criticised the tactics of their manager at times in the past 18 months, saying, for instance, they are “playing with the handbrake on”.

Broughton will discover, if he speaks to Torres himself, that the player CAN be persuaded to stay, if he believes that money will be spent on new signings, and – crucially – if there is someone at the helm who can offer a style of football he can buy into. Ditto Gerrard. The people around them are quietly letting that opinion be known.

You don’t have to be a rocket scientist to see where they are heading. If Benitez does decide to jump ship and move to Juventus, then the pair of them can be persuaded to stay, if they make the right appointment in succeeding him.

So, as a Liverpool fan, you are faced with a long hard look into your conscience to answer this question. When it comes to it, as it most likely seems it will, Rafa or Fernando? Manager or player? Allowing Benitez to go, to increase the chances of Torres staying? Or allowing Torres to go, to fund the second Rafalution? Again, the same applies to Gerrard.

It is a fascinating question, and I will offer no answer myself, because it is a matter that the Liverpool fans themselves must decide. They must be the ones who tell Broughton what to do.

Remember, Rafa lost a star striker in Michael Owen at the start of his Anfield reign, and rebuilt the club sufficiently to take them to two Champions League finals. With £100m to spend, he may be able to do the same again. And both Torres and Gerrard have been often injured this season.

But at the same time, do you really want to lose your best players, the two world class stars Liverpool boast? Keep the pair of them, and give a new manager £20-30m basic to spend, plus anything he raises by selling off the deadwood that is clogging up Anfield, and can you improve on 7th place?

It is a question every Liverpool fan must ask themselves today, it is a choice every person who loves the club will have to make from the heart. Good luck!
