Who would ever forget this wonderful day? I for one have a special reason to remember this day. My country was at war and the RUF rebels had just been kicked out of the city. There was a curfew starting at 6pm local time.

I was wondering through out the week how can I see this game, especially when we do not have a satellite receiver at home. When the answer finally came, I had a friend who lived near a cinema where games are shown. He told me that those guyz used to show games at night with the TV volume reduced to zero. We had to get there at 5:oo o clock and wink to them as a sign that we were there to watch the game. They would then take us to a very big and dark palour where nobody was allowed to celebrate or make any form of noise that would alert the government troops around. We sat there nervously until the game finally started. I had my little radio with an ear phone to listen to the commentary.

The commentary on the radio was faster than the pictures from the TV and when Bayern scored I heard it first and attempted to curse aloud and my friend quickly reached for my mouth. The owner of the place threatened to throw me out if I ever tried that again but fortunately for me no one was able to see that I was listening to the commentary through my little radio which I clutched firmly between my legs as I sat on the ground.

Finally, we got the equaliser and it was all smiles but guess what the lights just went off after some heavy gun shots were heard very close to where we were watching. We lay on our bellies flat but I was still listening to the Radio. When I heard commentary that Ole has scored and we have won I thought it was a joke. I told my friend and he did not believe me either.

After spending the night at Lumley street I now have to face my father who was furiously ……………………….let me spare you the rest.
