Milan defender Alessandro Nesta helped his side beat Juventus in the Berlusconi Trophy, after the penalty shoot-out, on Monday evening.
Nesta had been missing from competitive action for a year due to a series of injury problems and is now looking forward to this weekend’s Serie A start.
“I passed a year at home and understood how tough it is to be away from the playing field and not play,” admitted the former Lazio star to Milan Channel.
“I want to try and return to play at the level I had before and try to retire as late as possible.
"I'm happy about the arrival of Thiago Silva, now we must still recover Kaladze, but I think that with regards to the defensive department, we're fine.
“For this season the important thing is to recover all the injured players at 100 per cent, we are the first ones to have to work a lot."
The 33-year-old player has been at Milan since 2002, where he has played a total of 157 league games.

MILAN - 17.30: surprisingly, Ricky Kaká made his entrance at the Milanello sporting center to greet all his ex team mates and the Rossoneri's staff and follow the team's training closely. Ricky spoke for a long time with coach Leonardo and wanted to greet his old friends and the entire staff with which he worked in his extraordinary Milan career. The team gave him a heartfelt applause before going back to work and prepare the Berlusconi Trophy tomorrow at 20.45 at San Siro.
