3. Устанавливаем файлы lv2.pkg, FIX_PERMISSIONS_Waninkoko_Kmeaw_CFW_3.55.pkg

FIX_PERMISSIONS_Waninkoko_Kmeaw_CFW_3.55.pkg.

Everyone hates 'em, but do they really know why? We picked some of the gaming industry's least favorite companies and examined how each has fallen from grace and what can be done to return to glory.

Gamers are a fickle audience. A company can find itself at the top of the heap and in the dregs in a matter of moments. While there are some hated entities that made it their mission to earn the scorn of gamers--see Jack Thompson--a few companies and organizations that are generally dedicated to providing a service for gamers have nonetheless bore their wrath, whether it be due to greed, ineptitude, or sometimes, the simple predisposition for the public to villainize. The following institutions--listed in no particular order--seem to be the bane of gaming at this point, and we seek to examine why each is at their nadir of popularity, and how they can get back in gaming's good graces.

Public enemy number one: Sony Computer Entertainment

Why the hate?
Upon release of the PlayStation, Sony pretty much asserted total dominance of the console market--unlike previous leaders like Sega and Nintendo, the company didn't get to experience much time as the underdog in the console war. Even Microsoft, a company that has far greater marketing coffers at its disposal, had to start the fight in the face of a dominant foe. Sony picked a great time to enter the console market, when the quality of competition was at its lowest point--a rushed Sega Saturn was the only other comparable system on store shelves, and the Nintendo 64 was still over a year away from release. When the PlayStation 2 arrived, Sony once again enjoyed the benefit of a weak competitor at the outset and a long wait for strong competition to arrive. While Sony's systems were in the homes of millions of consumers, the company definitely laid the groundwork for hatred amongst the most vocal gamers by making a few unpopular decisions like dismissing 2-D titles early in the PS1's heyday, as well as being the direct reason that Sega was driven out of the console business. The most detrimental reason for the company's fallen public image was the hubris displayed by executives as the PlayStation 3 was announced and developed. With a seasoned and strong competitor in Microsoft enjoying the same lead-time that was beneficial for Sony before, and an innovative console in the Nintendo Wii launching around the same time, Sony continued to make lofty claims that the company couldn't deliver on come launch time. As of right now, the console is the most feature-filled and highest priced on the market while delivering the fewest must-have games to an audience that still craves gameplay over home theater accouterments. If this sounds familiar, it's because it's the same tactic that led to the PSP's failure to overtake the Nintendo DS. Essentially Sony made the mistake of displaying arrogance to an audience that has grown tired of it.

Is a turnaround possible?

If Sony is to get back in the hearts of the hardcore gaming community, it would frankly take a miracle of epic proportions. The "Wii60" movement has already cemented the PS3 as the outcast of this hardware generation, and the ills of the system--its outrageous price and lack of software--will take a lot of time and money to cure. Unfortunately for Sony, the best offense at this time is a good defense. Admitting its flaws and hoping that Microsoft or Nintendo stumble at the top is probably the best strategy to become likable to the gaming public at this point. The question is, does Sony even care? The company has created consoles to cater to the masses, many of whom are silent except with their wallets. If the company can score some big hits and push the nascent Blu-ray format as the future of home entertainment, it can still capture the casual fan that has pushed it atop the console heap for the past decade.

Public enemy number two: Electronic Arts

Why the hate?
One word. Madden. Seriously, ask any gamer why they dislike EA, and that will likely be the reason. That series is essentially a microcosm of the company's shattered image. At the base level, it's a long-standing sales champion, and a prime target for the gaming audience that savors underdogs. Furthermore, the series has resorted to somewhat nefarious means to increase its market share, using an exclusivity deal to become the only choice for NFL fans (in the process eliminating the cheaper--and arguably better--NFL 2K franchise) and skimping on innovative ideas. Those complaints can be extended outwardly towards EA; the company is the most dominant third party in gaming history, and has done so by relying on repetitive yearly franchises and comic and movie licenses. EA's "business first" policy has become even more apparent this console generation, with the company facing derision for nickel-and-diming consumers with priced video downloads and cheat codes that were previously free. And, of course, one can throw add the "Dreamcast factor" to the vitriol exhibited towards EA, as the company decided to withhold its valuable sports franchises from the beleaguered console.

Is a turnaround possible?

At the very least, EA has a better chance than Sony at this point, as the company has at least admitted a few of its shortcoming and has made a few steps towards becoming a fan favorite. EA seems to be working towards finding a middle ground between profitability and creativity. The company has jettisoned a few of the movie licenses that gamers disliked and is working on a few new IPs, including the sure-to-be-heralded Spore, while pledging support for innovation-friendly systems from Nintendo. If the company can make a few more concessions on the business end--like eliminating microtransactions on the Xbox Live Marketplace or dropping the price on some of the low-on-innovation sports franchises--then the company could surely forge a new identity amongst the gaming community.

Public enemy number three: The Entertainment Software Ratings Board

Why the hate?
The ESRB isn't an organization aiming for clamor, but it certainly isn't aiming for contempt, which many gamers have for the rating board. The organization has been critized as the MPAA has for placing a greater emphasis on sex over violence in determining a game's rating. As a result of the organization's recent missteps--like re-rating Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas and Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, gamers have taken less to trusting the ratings, which don't apply to most, as the typical gamer is usually over 17 anyway. Also, as the ESRB is still in its relative infancy, its ratings aren't treated with the same amount of respect in retail as ones handed down by the motion picture industry.

Is a turnaround possible?

More than any other organization listed, the ESRB is least in need of one. Quite simply, it's a company dedicated to educating the parents and other industry outsiders. Reaching out to the hardcore gaming fanbase could help them in that regard, though, as dedicated game players can offer much more context and expertise in rating games that the organization's current raters, who come from all walks of life.

Public enemy number four: GameStop

Why the hate?
Call it big box retail mentality meeting independent record store aesthetics. Step into a Wal-mart or Best Buy to buy games and you know what to expect--an minimally-invasive buying experience. If you're not buying something that can have a service plan attached, you'll likely walk out of the store unscathed. On the flip side, you can't expect to discuss the finer points of the industry with most employees there... the stores are simply too vast and busy, and the employees too "jack of all trades, master of none" to talk shop. Your average GameStop seems to be the type of place that is amenable to forge a connection with hardcore gamers. The stores are smaller, more lightly-staffed, and dedicated to one thing--gaming. Unfortunately since the company has grown immensely in the last few years--former competitors Funcoland, Babbages, and EB Games have all been unified under one umbrella--GameStop has taken on a more corporate structure and stripped a bit of individuality from the various store chains it has consumed. Sure, you're still likely to find a knowledgeable clerk at one of these stores, but you're almost assured of a upsell pitch like a reservation, magazine subscription, or a strategy guide, while offering you less than you'd usually like for your previously-played goods. The company has extended the pressure to phone lines and email inboxes, with a steady stream of impersonal and annoying communication. In short, the company's aggressive tactics are turning off the hardcore gaming fanbase that are still looking for a retailer to call their own.

Is a turnaround possible?

Out of all the companies listed, GameStop has the easiest path to redemption laying ahead. It's essentially the only gaming-focused retail store in the U.S., and its only fierce competitors are even larger corporations like Blockbuster Video and Circuit City. Unless independent gaming stores start popping up around the country, GameStop's still the best brick and mortar operation due to lack of similar competition. What GameStop needs to understand is that it has two potential major advantages over online retailers--convenience and camaraderie. There's still no quicker way to get games, and--like them or hate them--the selection is unmatched. If the company can stress that while ratcheting down the salesmanship a bit--face it guys, warranties are worthless now--then the chain could once again capture the independent spirit it had back when the gaming retail scene was a little more splintered.

Public enemy number five: GamePro

Why the hate?
The hatred for GamePro is largely a byproduct of the generation of gamers that read it when they were younger. With your average hardcore gamer in his late teens or twenties, the need to rebel is one that still exists. GamePro was a magazine that catered to a younger crowd long after other magazines shifted to an older demographic. Though GamePro has attempted to shift to appeal to an older demographic, it has fallen on deaf ears as the magazine was ultimately the last of the big three multiplatform mags to do so, as Game Informer and EGM made bigger shifts earlier. GamePro.com, similarly, has faced derision, as the only real online face of a large magazine making it the online recipient of the internet's "print is dead" ethos--EGM is but a part of the 1UP network while Game Informer chooses makes use of a smaller online presence, as the super-high circulation of the magazine essentially dictates that it come first.

Is a turnaround possible?

Yes, and one could argue that it's already happening. While it may be too early to gauge how the redesigned magazine will affect readership, the company's web presence is steadily improving. Whereas in earlier months, the site would be consistently scorned for even existing, nowadays GamePro.com is scoring some major features and interviews and slowly but surely gaining notoriety on the net. What else can be done? The complaint about pen-names is often brought up, which has been exacerbated by the use of them online, where the audience expects a greater level of intimacy. Finally getting rid of them could be a big step towards proving maturity to the masses.

Public enemy number six: Xbox Live Marketplace

Why the hate?
Call it the "rule of three". Gamers seemingly have to find an enemy any time three entities try to co-exist (see GamePro and Sony). Right now, Xbox Live Marketplace has become the least attractive of the three online content services even though it is easily the most robust. It's the largest service--gamers love to root for underdogs, remember?--but it also has been the most problematic as of late as the service has become overrun with microtransactions and missed deadlines for new Live Arcade titles. Whereas Sony has been mixing fully-featured downloads like Tekken 5 and Gran Turismo HD with original content like flow, and Nintendo has been pumping out classic titles at a regular pace, Microsoft has stumbled to put out well-received new games on Xbox Live, struggling to put out arcade also-rans like Root Beer Tapper, Paperboy, and Ms. Pac-Man. It certainly didn't help when the XBLA gurus chose to poke fun at another week without new title with an ill-conceived video. As Sony's AllIwantforxmasisapsp.com has proven, ijokes won't alleviate customer anger.

Is a turnaround possible?

Like so many other companies included here, sacrificing a bit of profitability could do wonders. Why are we being nickel-and-dimed for ancillary purchases like gamerpics, themes, and extra content for games we've laid out sixty bucks for? Perhaps including codes for free gamerpics and a theme available upon purchase of a game would be appealing--it could even drive more software purchases. As for the Xbox Live Arcade, Microsoft needs to put its nose to the grindstone and push these out a rate comparable to Nintendo while moving away from the classic arcade games that look absolutely awful next to Sony's more professional choices.
