Arsenal have made an enquiry for Werder Bremen star Diego, according to the player's father and agent.

The Brazilian has been one of the Bundesliga's star performers in recent seasons and has attracted the interest of a host of clubs.

The likes of Juventus, Real Madrid, Chelsea and Manchester City have been linked with the classy playmaker and now Arsenal have been added to his list of admirers.

Diego is under contract at Bremen until 2011 and he recently admitted his future was in the hands of the German club.

The 23-year-old's representative and father Djair da Cunha claims Arsenal, Juventus and Real Madrid have made approaches for his services.

"There are a lot of rumours and all of them are not the truth," Djair da Cunha told Bild.

"But Real, Arsenal and Juve want my son.

"By the way, Juve sporting director Alessio Secco already came to Bremen to speak with Klaus Allofs."

Arsenal have doubts over their two main strikers ahead of the Premier League game against Liverpool at Emirates Stadium on Saturday lunchtime.

Speaking to Arsenal TV Online on Thursday afternoon, Arsène Wenger gave Robin van Persie only a 20 per cent chance of playing because of the thigh injury that forced him off at half time in the Champions League tie between the sides on Wednesday evening. Adebayor (ankle) is more likely to figure but both players will be assessed on Friday morning.

"If you ask for my gut feeling right now I would say no, Robin won't play," said Wenger.

"At the moment it is 80 per cent no and 20 per cent yes. But he has a scan this afternoon and he is better today than he was last night. That is positive for a muscle problem. But we'll know much more about it on Friday morning."

"We also have Adebayor who has a little ankle problem. We'll see how he is tomorrow. I hope he'll be OK. But the time is so short between the games it is very difficult to make a decision the morning after a game. You don't know if it is a bruise or a little twist and the first 24 hours doesn't tell you a lot about that."

Bacary Sagna (ankle) and Tomas Rosicky (hamstring) will miss Saturday's game and the Champions League Quarter-Final second leg at Anfield. However there is optimism the full back could return the following Sunday at Old Trafford.

"They will not be back for the Liverpool games," said Wenger. "But Sagna is making good progress. Manchester United is the earliest for him. We are trying everything we can to get him back for that game. But we'll know more when he starts to run outside and he has not begun that."

Fabregas - I know Flamini will sign new deal
Cesc Fabregas is confident that Mathieu Flamini will pen a new deal with Arsenal.

The duo have forged a mighty partnership in the heart of the Gunners midfield this season. In fact in the Premier League they have missed just four games as a pair. However the Frenchman’s current deal runs out in the summer, at which point he can leave the Club for nothing. Europe’s elite are watching on intently for any developments, or lack of them.

Should Flamini, who also recieved his first international cap this term, agree on a new contract he would become the third player in a short of space of time to commit to the future of Arsenal. He would join Manuel Almunia and youngster Fran Merida - a real testament to the direction the Club is going.

Fabregas enjoys a good relationship with Flamini both on and off the field. He believes that despite the reported, and fully justified, interest from elsewhere, his friend’s commitment and desire to be a winner with Arsenal is evident everyday.

“He [Flamini] is concentrating on the football at the moment,” Fabregas told the matchday programme. “We are still going for two titles so right now everything else is not as important.

“Of course he wants to know where he will be next season but we all hope he will be with us.

“He is working really hard, he is a nice guy, he wants the best for Arsenal and I know he wants to stay. He has a lot of options because he is playing amazing football, but I know he really wants to stay here and that’s the most important thing.”

Fabregas even admits to giving Flamini a little nudge in the right direction: “Yes I must say I have. I keep telling him to do it quick because we need him.”
