Gael Clichy would rather have avoided an English team in the Quarter-Finals of the Champions League - but not because he fears Liverpool.

The French left-back agrees with Arsène Wenger's view that continental opponents bring a more authentic feel to the competition. However, Clichy is confident that Arsenal can prevail even if they need to beat Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester United to taste European glory.

"I watched the draw at the training ground with all the guys and I was a bit disappointed because the Champions League is for playing against teams around Europe," Clichy told Arsenal.com.

"An Italian team or Spanish team would have been fantastic but Liverpool is not bad, they are a great side and it will be a great challenge. Actually it's not a surprise, I could feel it that we were going to get an English team.

"It is done now and at this stage of the competition it doesn't matter who you play against because all the teams have great quality. We know Liverpool, they know us, it will be like a Premier League game and we'll see what happens."

Arsenal and Liverpool will know each other better than ever after a quirk of the fixture list set up three meetings in the space of just six days. The two legs of their Champions League Quarter-Final sandwich a Premier League clash at Emirates Stadium on Saturday, April 5, but Clichy is not concerned.

"I don't think that affects the players at all," he said. "We did it last season when we played the FA Cup and Carling Cup together. In fact it's quite good fun because it doesn't happen much. We will look forward to it and hopefully we will come out as the winner."

The Cup double Clichy refers to brought two Anfield victories for Arsenal in the space of four days in January 2007 with a stunning aggregate score of 9-4. Clichy will settle for more of the same next month.

Arsenal's Walcott: Dad, I did Kaka!

Arsenal attacker Theo Walcott still remains a big football fan at heart.

Dad Don has revealed what happened after the first leg of the recent Champions League tie against AC Milan.

He told the Daily Mail: "Normally, he takes his time but this night, he just zoomed off. When I asked him why, he said he had to get Kaka's shirt before anyone else did."

He did, too. And got it signed. A fortnight later, after shooting past the Brazilian in the San Siro, he phoned with the declaration: "Did you see it, dad? I did Kaka!"

Arsenal's January signing Luke Freeman was on the mark for England U16 in their 3-1 victory over Japan on Wednesday.

Wenger - Tough to say on Rosicky return
Arsène Wenger admits that Tomas Rosicky's ongoing hamstring injury has him flummoxed.

The Czech midfielder was last seen limping off seven minutes into Arsenal's game against Newcastle on January 26. Since then the manager has described his problem as 'not a serious injury but a strange one'.

It seems it is also not a quick one and the manager does not really know why.

"He is not making much progress," said Wenger at his press conference on Friday. "It looks like the tendon of his hamstring is healing slowly.

"He has been out now for seven weeks. It is difficult to say to you that he will play next week. In fact it is impossible to say when he will return. He has not practised and I don't know what to say really. It is a frustration for me and him as well.

"He's a very genuine guy who wants to play. If you tell him to come in tomorrow morning at 4am and leave at midnight so it will be better, he will do it. He has an absolutely genuine attitude and is 100 per cent committed but he's just not ready."
