Ashley Young confident he can be a success at Manchester United

The England international has belief in his own ability to make the grade at Old Trafford and admits that he knew about the Red Devils' interest as early as January this year

Manchester United winger Ashley Young is confident that he can be a success at Old Trafford following his arrival in the summer.

The England man is a summer acquisition after joining in a £17 million deal from Aston Villa, but despite having his critics over the move, the one-time Watford star is keen on proving himself at the club.

Speaking to Inside United, Young said: "I’ve always had confidence in myself and believed that I could play at the highest level.

"Some people said I couldn’t [play at United’s level], but they also said I couldn’t play for England. That doesn’t bother me, though – I’ve got confidence in myself to know that I can do it."

The 26 year-old went on to admit that as soon as he heard of United’s interest, he knew exactly what club would be his next destination after the Premier League champions originally tried to sign the reported Liverpool target back in January.

He continued: "At the time we were in a bit of a sticky situation at Villa and in a battle to stay up, so the clubs said they’d talk again in the summer and see where things were at.

"There were other clubs interested but as soon as I heard about the interest from United I just wanted to get here and sign. I knew it was the right club.

Manchester United send scouts to watch Nicolas Gaitan

Manchester United have dispatched scouts to watch Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan, according to reports.

Record claims Red Devils boss Sir Alex Ferguson has been tracking the player since his time at Boca Juniors, where Gaitan developed before moving to Portugal in 2010.

A three-cap international for Argentina, the report claims Manchester United will continue to monitor the player ahead of a potential move in January, despite the interest being shown in the current transfer window.

David Gill confirmed that, whilst the Old Trafford outfit have already made three additions this summer, with Ashley Young, David De Gea and Phil Jones joining Manchester United, the club could still make one more move this summer.

Wesley Sneijder is reportedly the club's top target, with various reports in the British press today claiming a Manchester United offer has been accepted by Inter Milan.
Landing the Dutchman could end the interest of Manchester United in Gaitan, who also plays in the attacking midfield position.

Should the Barclays Premier League outfit fail to land a player in the playmaker position, then a Gaitan move could be on the cards in the New Year.
