Barcelona play-maker Deco believes Manchester United will be running scared in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals at Old Trafford.

Cristiano Ronaldo has won the PFA Player of the Year award for the second consecutive season.

The Manchester United forward retained both the main award and the Young Player of the Year title after a magnificent campaign.

The Portuguese international has scored 38 goals, 28 in the league, putting United in contention to win both the Premier League and Champions League.

He saw off contention from Liverpool striker Fernando Torres, who has scored 30 goals in his debut season at Anfield, along with his club captain Steven Gerrard.

The other nominees were Arsenal duo Cesc Fabregas and Emmanuel Adebayor, and Portsmouth goalkeeper David James.

Fabregas and Torres were also nominated for the Young Player award, along with Aston Villa forwards Ashley Young and Gabriel Agbonlahor, and Manchester City defender Micah Richards.

Ronaldo joined United from Sporting Lisbon in 2003 aged 18, and has flourished after a slow start in the English game. His year-by-year goal tallies reflect his development, reading: 6, 9, 12, 23 and 38.

His performances this season have won widespread acclaim, making him the early favourite to inherit the 2008 World Footballer of the Year crown from Milan playmaker Kaka.

However, Ronaldo's season is in danger of stalling as it reaches its climax. The 23-year-old missed a penalty in last Wednesday's Champions League semi-final against Barcelona, and did not start the 2-1 Premier League defeat at Chelsea on Saturday.

He has not scored in his last three games after finding the net in each of his previous eight matches

Salutare fanilor lui United si m...e celor ce ne judeca! Cine spune ca celski ne-a rupt?
Eu prin "rupt" inteleg un 4-5 la zero.Aici nu prea a fost cazul.Mirlanii au cistigat meciul in stilul lor,cu ajutorul arbitrului.Oricum,cel mai bun jucator de la celski e Abramovic,el e golgheterul echipei.
Nici un om care iubeste fotbalul nu ii respecta pe cei de la celski,jocul lor ce provoaca greata.La toate canalele TV comentatorii acuza acest joc,fotbalul si-a pierdut traditia daca reusesc astia sa treaca de Liver sau,Doamne fereste,sa ia titlul in Anglia.Astora care care tot intra pe topicul nostru doar ca sa se bage in seama si neavind idee ce inseamna un joc de fotbal frumos si corect le transmit sa se mai documenteze si sa nu mai manince kkt!
Pe Ferguson nu-l invinuiesc pt aceasta infringere,fiti voi siguri ca mosulica stie ce face.El a luat la pont finala camppionatuluui,a incercat sa-i bata pe jigodii chiar la ei acasa cu echipa a 2-a! Simbata a jucat un semi-Manchester!
Asa ca nu va mai faceti probleme,titlul e al nostru si sa nu mai raspundem la provocarile diferitor retardati mintali!

Chelsea & Man Utd in fight probe

Man Utd players were warming down after their loss when the scuffle broke out

The Football Association has requested CCTV footage of a scuffle involving Manchester United players and Chelsea staff at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Patrice Evra, Gary Neville, Ji-Sung Park and Paul Scholes were warming down after a 2-1 loss when they were asked to move by groundstaff, sparking a row.

The row reportedly started after Evra felt he was subject to racist abuse.

"We will obviously be asking Chelsea to let us see their CCTV footage of the incident," said an FA spokesman.

"This will have nothing to do with the referee's report."

The spokesman explained that referee Alan Wiley would have been in his dressing room, a long way from the incident.

"The security cameras will show the provocation we received - I have never seen anything like this in my career"

A spokesman added the FA would gather "all relevant information".

Both clubs say they will look at footage before deciding on any action.

There are varying reports about the incident, being dubbed the "Battle at the Bridge".

Manchester United players accused Chelsea staff of provoking the brawl.

Striker Carlos Tevez is quoted in the Guardian claiming team-mate Evra was subject to a "grave insult".

The Argentine added: "He demanded an explanation and, from that moment, these men just wanted to attack Patrice.

"I think that the security cameras will show the provocation we received. I have never seen anything like this in my career... if the FA opens an investigation, we will co-operate and happily give our version of what happened."

The Mirror reports that United have distanced themselves from any claims of racist abuse following a phone conversation between their chief executive David Gill and his Chelsea counterpart Peter Kenyon.

Meanwhile, United's Rio Ferdinand apologised to a steward after accidently kicking her following Michael Ballack's late penalty winner.

Ferdinand lashed out at a brick wall as he walked off the pitch but also made contact with a female steward.

"Unfortunately, a lady was stood by and I accidentally brushed her with my foot. I apologised profusely and went back to make sure she was OK," he said.

"I have arranged for a bouquet of flowers to be sent to her.

"Credit to her, she laughed it off and was very understanding. She said she wasn't hurt."

Minutes earlier Ferdinand was involved in a shoving match with fellow England captaincy contender John Terry and Chelsea's John Mikel Obi.

Ferdinand was infuriated by referee Alan Wiley's decision to award the late penalty, given on the advice of an assistant referee, for a Michael Carrick handball, that Michael Ballack converted to give Chelsea victory.

It brought the Blues level on points with United at the top of the Premier League with two games remaining, with United enjoying a superior goal difference by 16.

Nothing will be decided in the title race now until at least Monday, 5 May, when Chelsea travel to Newcastle, two days after United host West Ham.

If United beat the Hammers, Chelsea will need at least a point at St James' Park to ensure the race goes to the final day, when the Blues host relegation-threatened Bolton and United travel to Wigan.

Before the resumption of Premier League hostilities, United and Chelsea play the second leg of their Champions League semi-finals, against Barcelona and Liverpool respectively, this week.

United are hoping defender Nemanja Vidic and striker Wayne Rooney will be fit for Tuesday's return fixture at Old Trafford, after a 0-0 draw in the first leg in Barcelona.

Serbian centre-back Vidic was forced off early on at Stamford Bridge with a facial injury following a challenge for the ball with Didier Drogba, while England star Rooney departed with a hip problem, after scoring the equaliser.

Boss Sir Alex Ferguson said: "Vidic has a few stitches under his lip and he's lost a tooth.

"He was dazed rather than concussed but if we'd waited for him to come round we would have played 10 or 15 minutes with 10 men and you can't afford that in such a big game. So we had to take him off.

"Rooney's got the same knock as he got last week, straight on the hip bone. It takes a while for that to clear because when you get a bang on it, it's very painful. I'm hopeful he will be all right for Tuesday."

Man Utd could crack, says Grant

Chelsea boss Avram Grant believes Manchester United will struggle to win their last two Premier League games.

Grant's team beat United 2-1 on Saturday to move level on points at the top of the table.

United, who face games against West Ham (home) and Wigan (away), top the table with a vastly superior goal difference.

But Grant said: "It is not easy when you are under pressure to win two games. We hope that we are happy at the end of the season."

Michael Ballack put Chelsea ahead at Stamford Bridge in a game they had to win to stand any realistic chance of winning the title.

Wayne Rooney equalised after a mistake by Ricardo Carvalho but Ballack struck the winner from the penalty spot after 86 minutes following a handball by Michael Carrick.

And Grant added: "We did what we needed to do. We won the game and put them under pressure.

"This team has a lot of character and we played good football today."

Victory at Stamford Bridge would have effectively guaranteed United the title, but nothing will be decided now until at least Monday, 5 May, when Chelsea travel to face Newcastle two days after United host West Ham.

And Grant said after the match: "I want to express my sympathy to Frank Lampard.

"We are thinking about him. It has been a tough week for him. I hope he feels good as soon as possible.

"You saw the players with the shirt after the goal. We are a big family at Chelsea."

Goalscorer Ballack said: "We have to say the victory is for Frank and his family at this difficult time."

Cu un trofeu mai putin p-u Ronaldo!

Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo has been named PFA Player of the Year.

The 23-year-old beat off competition from Fernando Torres, Steven Gerrard, Cesc Fabregas, Emmanuel Adebayor and David James to land the prize.

Arsenal midfielder Fabregas was named Young Player of the Year - an award which Ronaldo also won in 2007 - at a star-studded ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel on Sunday night.

Ronaldo did not attend the event in person but was shown on screen accepting his trophy from United manager Sir Alex Ferguson at the club’s Carrington training ground.

United are currently preparing for the second leg of their Champions League semi-final against Barcelona on Tuesday night.

Ronaldo said: “I feel very happy. When you work all season to play good, to do something for the team, to do your contribution for the team and then at the end of the season the PFA give you this award, it is a great moment, it is an honour, a pleasure.

“It is a great motivation to carry on like that, to work more and get better.

“I feel very good but it is not just my award, my team-mates have helped me a lot this season.

“They give me good passes to score goals - and I score - but it is a good moment for me.”

Ronaldo, who joined United in a £12.24million move from Sporting Lisbon in 2003, feels he has improved considerably during his time at Old Trafford.

As well as scooping both PFA awards last year he came third in the FIFA World Player of the Year poll and he is looking forward to achieving even more success, individually and collectively, with United in future.

The Portuguese star added: “I am sure I am better player than four or five years ago. Than last year? I have improved a little bit better still.

“This is my ambition to learn more and play better and I think I am in the right place. I want to carry on and this for me is a good moment to stay at the club and play at the best level.”
