Atlético Taste Second Mexican Defeat
Atlético de Madrid have suffered their second successive pre-season defeat on their tour of Mexico after being beaten 1-0 by Cruz Azul on Wednesday evening.

Javier Aguirre's team have begun their campaign early in order to prepare for the Champions League qualifiers next month, but have not started well.

After losing to Puebla at the weekend, los Colchoneros hoped to bounce back with a strong display in their second match only to taste defeat for the second time.

Goalkeeper Grégory Coupet made his debut for Atlético in the game while Maxi and Diego Forlán appeared having joined the squad late after extended summer holidays.

The only goal of the game came from the home team after just seven minutes when Edgar Andrade netted to put Cruz Azul in front and they never lost that lead.

With only one more player being sought in their summer rebuilkding programme, Atlético's squad is virtually complete and will have to step up a gear in the next few days in order to avoid problems setting in.

President Javier Aguirre is reported to be continuing negotiations for a new central midfielder from Mexico and has been talking directly to Porto about Lucho González.

Barcelona Prepare Stunning Robinho Move
Barcelona are preparing to test Real Madrid with a mega bid for Robinho and believe that the player's current dissatisfaction with the Bernabéu regime could be the key.

Joan Laporta is keen to sign a world class player this summer after seeing more than half of the club's fans go against him in a confidence vote and now he wants to win them back.

El Mundo Deportivo revealed that Barça would look to spend the Ronaldinho fee on a big name replacement and have now stated that it will be El Gaucho's compatriot.

According to the Barcelona-biased daily, Madrid supremo Ramón Calderón already knows that the Catalan club are interested after initial contacts were made recently.

Pep Guardiola has told Laporta that if he could buy any player in the world at the moment then Robinho would be the man and that has set the ball rolling.

In recent weeks, Robinho's mood has turned sour after talks on an improved contract against stalled and then los Merengues stated that he could not speak to Chelsea.

The Blues were said to have registered a bid of €60m and, even though they denied that, it forced a meeting between Madrid, the player and his agent and the disagreements then could have forced an untenable wedge between them.

While Barça could sit and wait to see if the Brazilian becomes truly unsettled, Laporta is inclined to take the direct approach and make a bid in the next few days.

Another aspect of the saga is that in when Calderón came to power a pact between him and Laporta was made public that neither would go for each others players.

If the Barça chief decides to make a move for Robinho it could well rupture the good relations that the two presidents currently enjoy.

Que el FC Barcelona fichase al madridista Robinho sería la bomba del verano. La noticia avanzada ayer por MD en la que se aseguraba que el club azulgrana va a contratar a un delantero mediático con el dinero que obtenga por las ventas de Ronaldinho y Eto'o causó ayer un gran impacto a nivel mediático. En las redacciones de diarios, radios y televisiones se empezaron a hacer cábalas sobre la identidad de la 'bomba' que prepara el Barça. MD puede avanzar que el jugador que colmaría las aspiraciones tanto de Pep Guardiola como de Joan Laporta sería Robinho.

El delantero madridista es un futbolista que le encanta a Pep Guardiola y al que quiere fichar Joan Laporta. Conseguirlo sería marcarse un tanto importante de cara a la Asamblea de Compromisarios que debe celebrarse en septiembre o en octubre. Entre otras cosas, porque sería arrebatarle un crack mediático al eterno rival y además porque el brasileño, a nivel futbolístico, ofrece algo que se compra muy caro hoy en día: desequilibrio.

Fichar a Robinho no sería una tarea sencilla para el club azulgrana, pero no hay que descartarlo de entrada dado que el Barça piensa apostar fuerte por él. De hecho, ya se han producido incluso las primeras aproximaciones al futbolista brasileño a través de terceras personas. También Ramón Calderón, el presidente madridista, sabe que existe un interés del FC Barcelona por el delantero brasileño.

En el caso de Robinho hay un caldo de cultivo que ayudaría al Barça: el extremo acabó la temporada más que molesto con Bernd Schuster, quien le relegó a la suplencia en beneficio de Arjen Robben. En cambio, un factor que jugaría en contra de los intereses de Joan Laporta y Pep Guardiola es el interés que ha demostrado el Chelsea por hacerse con los servicios de Robinho. El crack blanco es una petición expresa de Scolari a Abramovich, el multimillonario dueño del club londinense. De hecho, se ha publicado que el Chelsea ofrece hasta 60 millones de euros por Robinho al Real Madrid, una cantidad espectacular pero muy lejana todavía a los 150 millones de euros que figuran en la cláusula de rescisión del delantero.
