Fergie: We'll shut up critics

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson hopes to silence those critics who still believe his side are not deserving of any accolades with a Red Devils victory over Barcelona.

United earned the vital point against Blackburn Rovers at the weekend to nab a record 19th league title with a game to spare.

Yet despite the Old Trafford outfit clinching their fourth Premier League title in five years, there's still talk this year's champion-winning squad can't hold a candle those illustrious side which have come before them - a perception Ferguson is keen to quash when his troops face La Liga winners Barca in the UEFA Champions League final later this month.

"Beating Barcelona would end all arguments about this team," said the Scotsman.

"I know we are playing a terrific team but would you back against us in a big way? I don't think you would.

"We are capable of doing very well."

Ferguson believes this year's English campaign began to sway in the Red Devils' way their 4-2 come-from-behind win over West Ham United back in April.

He added: "The game that changed the season? West Ham.

"We were 2-0 down at half-time and that put the fear of God into a lot of them. Me included."

The 69-year-old manager is already looking to next season and is confident United will not rest on their laurels in defence of their title.

"I will not be taking it easy because we have won the title," Ferguson pledged on MUTV.

"The ambition of the club doesn't alter. It doesn't go away. That is the responsibility as manager of Manchester United.

"The great thing about us is that we accept challenges. It doesn't matter where it comes from.

"Our job is to get better and we will try to be better next year."
