Whilst scoping through the countless articles for the morning and this one caught my eye, former Arsenal manager George Graham, the man who made Arsenal the envy of Europe with the defence he created in the moulds of Dixon, Adams, Bould and Winterburn – though we also can’t forget Seaman between the sticks either in that team, who formed one of the most formidable defences in the game to date, also winning two league titles, a domestic cup double and not forgetting taking Arsenal to a European trophy final and winners against Parma in the European Cup Winners Cup in a nine year period – so kind of gives the man a bit of a stance when it comes to his view on the current situation.

Speaking on Radio Five Live’s Sportsweek program, Graham said:

“They need experienced, outstanding players and I think they need about another three in the side at the present time, they’ve got the money, let’s sit down, get some of these players in he’s supposed to be after and let’s see if they can start winning trophies again.”

“They have big signs at the club saying ‘Arsene knows’. Well I hope he does, I think he’s going to be there this season. I think he’s under a little bit of pressure just now from the fans”.

“But I think Arsene, if he sits down and is honest with himself, he’ll put it all back together again. But he needs to do some hard thinking.
“Please get the the cheque book out Arsene. I think they need another centre-half, I think they still need a strong, outstanding, experienced midfield and I still think they need an out-and-out striker like a (Thierry) Henry.”
With only ten days until the end of the transfer period, Wenger will have to be quick in there and not the usual dithering around until the last minute, and I agree with Graham, he’s the kind of manager Arsenal needs right now in my opinion, a manager with steel and determination behind him – and I’m sure if Graham was there at this time, we may not be playing Wenger’s style of game, but at the same time we wouldn’t have a manager in place who allows this kind of situation to arise whether with players wanting to leave and dithering around or to bring into the squad and leaving things until the last minute as Wenger appears to have done.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was full of praise for his players after yesterday’s 0-2 defeat at home at the Emirates against Liverpool as he blamed the defeat on two offside decisions that went against the Gunners.

Speaking to Arsenal Player after the game, the Frenchman admitted that Emmanuel Frimpong’s red card changed the game as it came when the Gunners were on top of the game and ready to make substitutions to strengthen the offensive department.

On the back injury suffered by centre back Laurent Koscielny, the Arsenal boss declared that the Frenchman was out for two weeks the last time he suffered a similar injury meaning that he could miss Wednesday’s Champions League game against Udinese and Sunday’s Premier League game away against Manchester United.

Wenger concluded by saying that he understands the frustration of the fans as he revealed that his team is still working to bring new players but that it’s difficult and they are not close to sign anybody at the moment.

On Saturday, the manager said:

We played with the right spirit, with the right heart, I believe we were unlucky on both goals, it looks they were both offside but certainly the first was.

[Emmanuel Frimpong's red card] changed the game, of course, because we were just on top of the game and overall we were thinking to add some more offensive power but it was then difficult and on top of that we conceded an offside goal so it became very difficult.

[Laurent Koscielny?] I don’t know, he has an inflamed back and the last time he had that he was out for two weeks.

[The morale] is quite strong, the players are highly determined and they showed great spirit today. I feel that everything went against us in the last two games, it’s very difficult to analyse why but we are not very lucky with what’s happening to us.

[My message for the fans?] Who wouldn’t be frustrated when you lose two nil at home? The fans were great today and I just would like to thank them for their support. The team gave absolutely everything, we had eight players out today and it’s time to get some players back.

[New signings?] We try but it’s difficult to promise because we are not close to sign anybody at the moment.
