The full-back has been tipped to leave the Emirates this summer, amid interest from a number of top sides, but it is the ambitious French outfit who are preparing a bid

Paris Saint-Germain are ready to submit an offer for Arsenal defender Gael Clichy, according to reports emanating from France.

The 25-year-old has been under the tutelage of coach Arsene Wenger for the past eight years, after originally plying his trade for Cannes as a teenager.

However, there is intense speculation regarding his future in north London, as he has attracted a plethora of suitors, including the likes of Juventus, Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Inter.

La Provence has claimed that the Parisian outfit will make an offer for his services, and have promised to give the full-back a considerable pay rise from his current deal at Arsenal.

Clichy has one year remaining on his contract with the Gunners and Wenger recently revealed that the club are keen to hold on to the French full-back and are currently in talks to extend his stay at the Emirates.

If a deal cannot be reached, an offer in the region of €6 million will likely be enough for the Ligue 1 outfit to land their man.

PSG were recently bought out by Qatar's sovereign wealth fund, who acquired 70 per cent of the club's shares and have vowed to plough significant funding into the team.

Wenger wrote, “We have shown that we have the technical ability to win the league but not the defensive solidity to do it. We have learned that we have the quality, despite what everybody is saying, but of course we need to gain some strength in some areas of the team.

“We are frustrated and disappointed but we should not go overboard. We just have to rectify things in the areas that we need to improve. Mentally of course, I hope that the team has learned a lot this season because we could not cope with the number of games, nor the pressure in the important moments of the season.”

It is no surprise that Wenger is being heavily linked with moves for central defenders this summer as that is where we need to invest wisely in. If we are able to get Vermaelen fit and playing well then all we need is another quality central defender to play alongside him.

Arsène Wenger will run the rule over last years loanees as well as a selection of promising Reserve team players when pre-season kicks off a week on Wednesday.

Neil Banfield’s first-team hopefuls will return to London Colney at the same time as the first-team, on July 6th, instead of earlier, as with previous years, with the rest starting medical tests on the 4th. Wenger is expected to concentrate his early efforts on those who made significant strides on loan last season, with a view to including them in his re-shuffled squad.

Kyle Bartley is the most prominent candidate to make the step up, with Arsène already holding off interest from Rangers until he’s taken a closer look at the 20-year-old. Carlos Vela and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas are two players with a lot prove, or they could both find themselves spending next season at pastures new.

French duo Francis Coquelin and Gilles Sunu, as well as defender Ignasi Miquel, won’t be involved, as they’re preparing for the Under 20 World Cup. Coquelin’s omission will present opportunities to Craig Eastmond and Emmanuel Frimpong, both of whom will hope to become Alexandre Song’s deputy.

Wellington Silva, Ryo Miyaichi and Samuel Galindo are all due back, but it’s not yet clear yet if they’ll start training on July 7th, or will join up later, due to visa issues.
