Barcelona president Sandro Rosell has admitted that the club cannot pay Arsenal €50 million to sign Cesc Fabregas in the summer and he insists that they will not go overboard in their bid to recruit the midfielder.

The Spanish champions tried to sign the 23-year-old Spain international last summer but Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger refused to budge in his insistence that Fabregas say at the Emirates.
Barcelona, though, have continued their quest to take Fabregas back to Catalunya as he is regarded by many as Xavi’s successor in the midfield for the Blaugrana, and earlier this month Goal.com exclusively revealed that the Gunners are ready to sell the player should an offer of €51.5m be made.
However, Barca president Rosell has now dismissed suggestions that they will pay the English giants that much money even though he admits that coach Pep Guardiola indeed wants to have the World Cup winner in his team.
"Barca are not disposed to pay €50m for Cesc Fabregas next summer," said Rosell in an interview with Catalan daily Sport. "That is decided and, although Guardiola demands this player, we will not pay this amount.
"It is impossible due to a simple reason. In football, prices are reduced each year and, if we offered Arsenal €40m for Cesc last summer, €50m is now impossible. If the coach demands Cesc we will negotiate with the Gunners, but at a correct limit and without madness and, if the operation is not possible, we will wait for other opportunities.”

Arsenal recently reached an agreement to sign talented 16-year-old Jon Miquel Toral Harper from Barcelona, in a manner reminiscent to that which had taken Fabregas away from Camp Nou in 2003. Rosell had hit out at the former English champions, branding their method of conducting such business as “a little immoral”.
Referring to that signing, Rosell admitted that relationships between the two clubs are fractured but has still kept doors open for further negotiations over Fabregas.
"Our relationship with Arsenal is not good,” he explained. “The Toral issue has not pleased us.
“The future of Cesc is in his hands and we could only negotiate with Arsenal if Guardiola insists. Only with any sale is it possible to increase the money for the negotiations."

Fabregas himself remains open to a return to his boyhood club but still has a four-year contract with Arsenal that sees him earn £110,000 every week.
