Arsene Wenger revealed he will pursue the signing of a goalkeeper on an emergency loan deal after Wojciech Szczesny joined captain Cesc Fabregas on Arsenal's mounting casualty list.

Fabregas suffered a recurrence of his hamstring injury 15 minutes into Tuesday's Champions League defeat to Barcelona and is out of action for two weeks meaning he will miss Saturday's FA Cup quarter-final clash against Manchester United.

Szczesny does not make the trip to Old Trafford either with Wenger revealing the young Polish keeper - who will be out for a 'while' - must see a specialist to discover the full extent of the dislocated finger injury he sustained at the Nou Camp.

Wenger is left with Manuel Almunia as the only senior keeper available to the club with Lukasz Fabianski out for the rest of the season after shoulder surgery and Vito Mannone on loan at Hull.

The Gunners boss admitted he has a preferred loan signing in mind but must first seek the permission of the Premier League before he can make a move.

He said: 'We will look for an emergency keeper and I have somebody in mind, but it won't be in time for this weekend.'

'Szczesny has a dislocated finger with a tendon problem. We need the assessment of the specialist to see where we go from here,' he added.

'He had a scan last night (Wednesday). He is out for a while, for how long? I couldn’t tell you.'

Arsenal, second in the league with the FA Cup their last hope of cup silverware, now face the prospect of their sixth successive trophy-barren season.

Key to their hopes is the fitness of skipper Fabregas and Wenger anticipates it should take him around a fortnight to recover.

'He (Fabregas) is very disappointed because it is becoming a bit of a problem for him, but it is very superficial,' said Wenger.

'I don't have any regrets about playing him [in Barcelona]. He said he was fit. When Cesc Fabregas is fit, you play him.'

Wenger, meanwhile, accepts that his battle-weary Arsenal squad could do with the psychological boost of FA Cup victory on Saturday.

He said: 'We need it, I must say, because we need help. We have been touched severely recently and we are of course chasing after a win of that type.

'I have said since the start of the season that we will go for all of the competitions.

'We have got two left and we lost one in the last minute, we played another, against the super favourite of the Champions League, and we lost under special circumstances.

'We need to keep the right attitude to turn the luck around on our side a little bit.

'We are disappointed, but we want to focus on our next target, and we have big targets in front of us.'

Arsene Wenger today branded UEFA "arrogant" and "like a dictatorship" after being charged with improper conduct following Arsenal's Champions League exit to Barcelona.

The Gunners manager faces a possible touchline ban and midfielder Samir Nasri a European suspension after they were charged with using "inappropriate language" towards referee Massimo Busacca following his controversial decision to send off Robin van Persie at the Nou Camp on Tuesday.

Van Persie took a shot when flagged offside with the striker claiming not to have heard the whistle but the Swiss official showed a second yellow card.

Arsenal were level at 1-1 and ahead on aggregate at the time but were eventually beaten as Barcelona booked their place in the quarter-final.

The disciplinary case will be heard by UEFA a week today and Wenger urged football's governing body to "show some humility" by admitting culpability amid the controversy.

"I deny completely any charge," he said. "I don't understand where that comes from. It is the kind of thing that is difficult to understand. It is a shame that the referee took the decision to send Robin van Persie off because it was the wrong decision.

"What was terrible was that the first game was a fantastic advert for football and the second was destroyed and the only thing that people remember was the sending off that killed the game.

"A bit more humility would do UEFA some good. To apologise for what happened would be much better than to charge people who've done nothing wrong. UEFA have to have a little bit of a low profile after what happened on Tuesday night.

"Of course this decision frustrated us but it frustrated everyone who loves football.

"Who has been punished are Arsenal football club. We are out of the Champions League and have lost one of our big ambitions. And on top of that we have to say sorry to UEFA. We have done nothing wrong.

"They organise the competition, they organise the referees who come to the game. It is Arsenal who have been punished.

"When you have a football game of that stature, you cannot come out with decisions like that and show a lot of arrogance on top of that. We all understand that you can make wrong decisions but after that it becomes a dictatorship - it is not about common sense any more."

UEFA have not revealed what Wenger and Nasri are supposed to have said to Busacca and the Frenchman refused to go into detail today but suggested there was another side to the story.

He said: "I will keep what I said to UEFA if they really want to know because I will have some interesting statements to make about some statements made by people who were not supposed to say what they said.

"You can check any statement I made on TV after the game. If I've done anything wrong, I am ready to be charged and what is said in the tunnel [should stay there]. If you can get any other time - only one time have I come out with what has been said against me and the referee - during my 15 years in England, I'll buy you a big holiday."
