£22 million deal lined up

Real Madrid look to have stolen a march on Spanish rivals Barcelona and Premier League trio Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea in the race to sign Valencia winger David Silva. The 24-year-old has long been linked with a move away from the Mestalla and could now move to the Bernabeu with reports claiming that a £22 million move has been agreed.

The recruitment by Real of the dynamic left-sided player could potentially signal the end of their interest in French international Franck Ribery; a player who has, like Silva, been heavily linked with a switch to England. Indeed should the Spanish international remain in La Liga it is fully expected that Chelsea and Manchester United will lock horns for Bayern Munich’s prized asset. While Liverpool are in need of further width, given the likely sale of Albert Riera and poor form of Ryan Babel, it is understood that their current financial difficulties will make big money signings unlikely this summer.

Several other high-profile continental players have also been linked with the Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool as the end of the season draws near. Atletico Madrid’s Sergio Aguero and AC Milan’s Alexandre Pato have both been tipped to sign on at Stamford Bridge, Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema have repeatedly been associated with Sir Alex Ferguson while Rafael Benitez has already secured a deal for striker Milan Jovanovic and apparently scouted Fiorentina’s Stefan Jovetic.

It is as yet unclear as to whether major signings will be made before or after the World Cup, although with clubs keen on holding onto their best players until the climax of the showpiece tournament it looks as though big money could exchange hands after July.

Both Silva and Ribery are tipped to be major stars at this summer’s World Cup with both Spain and France, alongside reigning champions Italy, providing the stiffest competition for favourites Brazil.

Man Utd striker Wayne Rooney shortlisted for PFA award

Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney is among the nominations for the Professional Footballers' Association Player of the Year award.

Rooney is joined on the four-man shortlist by Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas, Chelsea striker Didier Drogba and Manchester City ace Carlos Tevez.

Rooney and Fabregas are also nominees for the Young Player of the Year Award.

Aston Villa midfielder James Milner and Birmingham's on-loan goalkeeper Joe Hart complete that particular list.

Hart, 22, has spent the season on loan at St Andrew's from Manchester City.

Rooney, who has already scored 34 goals for his club this term, is favourite to capture the PFA prize and make it the fourth successive year it has gone to a United player.

Cristiano Ronaldo recorded back-to-back wins in 2007 and 2008, while Ryan Giggs was handed the honours last season.

Rooney, 24, and Fabregas, 22, will compete to join a select band of players to have won the young player award in the same season as the main honour.

Andy Gray, the former Aston Villa and Scotland striker, and Ronaldo achieved the feat in 1977 and 2007 respectively.

Fabregas is currently injured and will miss the rest of the season after cracking his right fibula during the first leg of the Gunners' Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona.

But the Spaniard remains a key player for the Gunners, whose Premier League title aspirations were seemingly ended by their defeat by Tottenham on Wednesday.

BBC African Footballer of the Year Drogba, 32, has hit 32 goals to leave Chelsea on the brink of the first double in the club's history, while Tevez, 26, has also enjoyed a prolific campaign; netting 28 goals since joining City from neighbours United last summer.

The 24-year-old Milner, who looks like being a key player for England at this year's World Cup, is trying to emulate Aston Villa team-mate Ashley Young, who won the young player accolade last season.

Dar cred că ne vom descurca şi fără el. Trebuie să oferim mai mult timp lui Nani, Obertan, Tosic. Dacă o să îi folosim din paşte în paşte, normal că nu vom putea vedea ce pot ei cu adevărat.

Păcat că nu i s-au oferit deajuns şanse. Tosic este şi el un jucător de viteză, dar deasemenea este foarte bun la cornere şi lovituri libere. Dacă i-am folosi cu cap pe wing-ul stîng, cred că nu ne mai trebuie Silva.
Anderson are 3 ani de cînd e la United şi doar în rare ocazii a jucat pe postul pe care juca la Porto. De aceea sunt de părerea că băiatul încă mai are un cuvînt de spus. Cu Hargo situaţia este mai delicată, dar nu cred că vom găsi mulţi mijlocaşi defensivi care să se compare cu el.
Toată echipa a fost presată să joace la nivel maxim şi îl îneţeleg pe Fergie de ce nu le-a dat tinerilor mult timp de ''gîndire'' în acest sezon. Noi trebuie să cîştigăm trofee şi să aducem bani la club pentru a acoperi datoriile maimuţoilor americani.
