Drogba: I almost signed for Arsenal
Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has revealed that he almost signed for Arsenal in 2002, as it was rumoured that manager Arsène Wenger was interested in the Ivory Coast international.

Drogba was playing for Guingamp before joining Marseille, and that is where he caught Chelsea's attention and signed for £24 million.

Drogba said: "I don't know if Arsène Wenger regrets it - you will have to ask him. But remember he did have Thierry Henry!

"Arsenal was a team with a lot of French players and players from the French League.

"Sylvain Wiltord, Patrick Vieira, Thierry Henry, Robért Píres... the French used to joke Arsenal were the 21st team in Ligue 1. And then I heard Arsène Wenger was interested in me.

"But for some reason it didn't happen and I didn't sign for Arsenal, I don't think it was my destiny.

"I honestly believe if things don't happen, it is for a reason.

"I am looking forward to the game and will try my best to keep that record going but I know it won't be easy.

"I've had some games when I've really struggled against Arsenal - but I hope this won't be one of them. We need to win.

"All I care about is winning - it's so important we do that after losing at City.

"We knew that one day we would lose. We will lose other games during this season but as long as we finish top of the league then it doesn't matter."

Wenger: We have our own physical striker
Manager Arsène Wenger says that new signing Marouane Chamakh can be his side's biggest threat when his team face Chelsea at Stamford Bridge today.

Chamakh has made an impressive impact at the start of his Arsenal career, scoring 7 goals in 15 games.

The clash in West London today will be proof of Arsenal's title credentials, especially with second-placed Manchester United dropping points against Sunderland yesterday.

Having lost four times in the last five games against Chelsea, Wenger will be hoping that Chamakh will be his own secret weapon as he hopes to nullify the threat posed by Didiee Drogba.

Wenger said: "Marouane is a player that gives something more than his quality to the team because he has a desire to win and a desire to give to others as well.

"He makes other players look good around him. He believes he can win, he is a winner. He isn't someone who hides in front of physical challenges.

"He has the potential to do it but let's see on Sunday."
