ca tot veni vorba de cornere....atitea cornere degeaba pentru ca au fost batute foarte prost...si messi si iniesta au batut kred ca 90 % la bara scurta.....mingi inutilizabile...a fost doar pierdere de timp.....p.s--mda ce-a fost a fost....

The Ratings: FC Barcelona vs Hercules 0-2

History repeated itself tonight as the minnows from Alicante brought down the Blaugrana juggernaut on their home turf, just like they did 13 years ago. Who performed on the pitch? Here’s what we think.

DEFENCE:

Valdes: Had nothing much to do up until the goal. His defense was taken by surprise with a quick free kick and after a scrappy affair in the box, Nelson Valdez slotted past him to give the visitors the lead. Could do nothing for the second. But he did make quite a few saves from the likes of Kiko, Trezeguet and Sendoa. Let down by his defense tonight. 6.0

Adriano: Barcelona’s best player in the first half. Showed great work rate and got the better of Drenthe throughout the first forty minutes. Made darting runs forward providing some dangerous crosses. Was a real threat on the right flank and had an excellent first half. 7.5

Pique: Almost scored the equalizer in the first half with a close range header that went inches wide of the post. Played as an makeshift forward when the team became desperate but to no avail. Did not marshal the backline well enough this time round and his entire defense is to blame for both goals. Picked up a nasty facial injury towards the end. 5.5

Abidal: Saw more of the ball than most of his teammates. Distributed the ball well enough but was caught out for the second goal. The entire defense seemed disoriented when Hercules were on the break. Will have his place in the side questioned after a disappointing performance. 5.0

Maxwell: Started off very well making runs forward and providing the team with an attacking option down the left. Played a clever one-two with Villa and put in a perfect cross for Bojan who somehow managed to miss from three yards out. Had a good game and made a couple of good blocks, but lost his man for the second goal who provided the cross for Valdez. 6.0

MIDFIELD:

Mascherano: Not the ideal debut for the new midfield signing. Slotted into defensive midfield. Was calm in possession but clearly not even close to his best. Booked for tugging Valdez’ shirt to stop a counterattack and should consider himself lucky to not have been sent off after a a similar foul on Drenthe. Hooked for Xavi at the break. 5.5

Iniesta: The World cup hero was very mediocre in the center of the pitch. Tried to create the spark that was missing in his team’s play. However, he was marked well by the visitors and failed to do anything significant. Bad day at the office for Don Andres. 5.0

Keita: The workhorse in midfield. Keita did the legwork on the pitch, but Hercules’ excellent closing down meant his team mates did not have as much space as they are accustomed to. Played some good passes and even tried a couple of forward runs. Slotted in front of the back four after Mascherano’s departure. Industrious performance but no end product. 5.5

FORWARD:

Bojan: Very, very disappointing. Missed an absolute sitter when he failed to convert Maxwell’s superb cross from three yards. Got into a couple of good scoring positions but failed to get a touch. Lost possession when passed to and he seemed to be lacking confidence. Did not have an impact on the game at all and was completely anonymous for the entire first half. Correctly substituted for Pedro at the break. 4.0

Messi: Had a couple of moments where he showed his skill and control but other than that he failed to pose a major threat to the visitors. Somehow lacking that final pass/forward run/ shot on goal that we have been accustomed to. Seemed to give up early on and looked fatigued in the second half not working as hard as he normally would. FIFA virus anyone? 5.0

Villa: Started the game off well, but faded away in the second half. Posed a threat on the left early on, but exceptional marking by the Alicante side made sure Villa was completely nullified as the game went on. Caught offside more times than he had shots on goal. A frustrating night for the Asturian striker. 5.0

SUBSTITUTES:

Xavi: Introduced in the second half with the intention of bringing discipline and invention to a Barcelona team that looked in complete disarray. With Hercules closing down brilliantly, he failed to find any space to operate in and failed to have a huge impact on the game. Kept the ball moving, but failed to deliver the ‘x factor’. Lost possession in a dangerous place and was lucky his team weren’t punished for it. 5.5

Pedro: Looked very lively down the flanks. Was an immediate threat when he came on as Barcelona dished out all their passes to him and relied on his crosses. Got quite a few decent balls in but in the end there was no final product. One of the better substitutions. 6.0

Alves: Introduced for the excellent Adriano. Looked slightly off the pace committing some silly errors. Did provide a threat down the right but did not fare as well as Adriano. 5.5
