Arsene Wenger, whose Arsenal FC team is drawn against FC Barcelona in today’s UEFA Champions League draw held in Nyon, Switzerland admitted the tough task ahead of them to make their second bid to the final of Europe’s premier club competition – their one and only time disappointed by the Catalans at the Stade de France in Paris, France, on 17th May 2006.

“We will not be favourites but for me it will be a 50:50 game. They are a good side and we are a good side. It will be interesting and exciting. We have to make sure we have the focus and belief right,” the Gunners’  boss told UK’s Telegraph.co.uk.

“You go to the bookmakers tomorrow and you will see we are not favourites. If we turn up with our best performance we have a good chance to beat them.”

“What is important is that on the day everyone sees a good football game. When you are in the quarter-final, you are sure to play good teams, and Barcelona is a good team. What is important now is not to be  in awe of them but to focus on ourselves.”

Except for William Gallas, Arsenal is expected to have Cesc Fabregas – a FC Barcelona cantera product, Tomas Rosicky and Alex Song back for the first-leg at the Emirates Stadium on March 31.

“We can show we have matured and are intelligent. Intelligence in life is to know what is important to you. We have promised ourselves to give it absolutely everything. We are in a position where we want to win every single game.”

The tie will also see the return of Thierry Henry, a player who was voted in a poll of Arsenal fans as the club’s greatest ever player.

“We are always in contact,” was the only Wenger’s comment about that.

FC Barcelona technical secretary Txiki Begiristain, says he is pleased to be drawn with Arsenal in the quarterfinals of the Champions League this evening.

“These are two teams that do not close down and play with long balls, but rather try to keep possession and play for the spectacle,” he told journalists after the draw.

“A show is guaranteed and we have to see if we are a little stronger than them. Anyway, the best news is knowing that we’ll play the second leg at home,” said Txiki.

Thierry Henry and Cesc Fabregas will face against their former club, provided none suffers an unfortunate injury ahead of the tie.

“This is a very morbid situation since it not only means the return of Cesc to the Camp Nou but also of Thierry Henry to the Emirates,” he said.

We do not think of the Semifinals

Begiristáin is cautious to remind the journalists that it is not right to think of the semifinals just yet.

“It is true that should we reach the semis, we have a good experience of already playing Inter, but that is still very far and you cannot think of it right now,” he concluded.

    Полузащитник испанской “Барселоны” Яя Туре не собирается покидать каталонский клуб, сообщает испанское интернет-издание Sport.es.

    Напомним, что по ходу сезона Туре и, в частности, его агент Дмитрий Селюк не раз выражали недовольство тем, что наставник команды Пеп Гвардиола не предоставляет футболисту больше игровой практики. Однако Туре на днях заявил, что связывает свое будущее с "Барсой".

    "Я слышал, что моими услугами интересуются "Манчестер Сити" и "Арсенал", однако я остаюсь в "Барселоне", - заявил футболист.

    Президент испанской "Барселоны" Жоан Лапорта, готовящийся к политической карьере и борющийся за независимость Каталонии, заявил в интервью французскому Canal +, что после того, как Каталония станет независимой, "сине-гранатовые" продолжат играть в национальном первенстве Испании.

    Лапорта приводит в пример "Монако", который, представляя независимое княжество Монако, тем не менее, участвует в чемпионате Франции.

    Кроме того, Лапорта сказал, что на мундиале будет болеть за все команды, в которых выступают каталонцы или игроки "Барселоны".
