Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas (22) has denied suggestions he has agreed to join Barcelona next season.

Reports emanating from Spain have claimed that Emirates skipper Fabregas has reached a verbal agreement to join the Catalan giants in the summer. Barcelona moved quickly to rubbish the rumours and now the midfielder claimed the same to Sky Sports.

“They have denied it, I have denied it. I just want to focus on Arsenal,” Fabregas told Sky Sports after Arsenal’s victory against Liverpool on Wednesday.

“I think Arsenal Football Club is above everything, every single player in its history and their fans, and the club, and myself – I think we deserve a little bit more respect.”

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger also denied talk that the Spain international was on his way to Camp Nou.

“Nothing plus nothing is nothing,” said Wenger.

Meanwhile Cesc Fabregas’s father has denied his son has agreed a move to Barcelona, but suggested a move could happen in the summer.

When asked about a possible move on Spain’s Radio Canal, Francesc Fabregas Snr said:

“If something has to happen – we will see at the end of the season. We would talk.

“But to be talking about these at the middle of the season – I understand Arsenal being angry.

“If a club is interested in a player, then it should go to the other club and try to negotiate. This is the way to function always.

“If this thing has to happen, it has to be this way: Barca going to talk to Arsenal. That goes the same with Cesc and for the rest of the players.

“Imagine if this could happen to a Barca player. Everybody would be very annoyed with these speculations.

“This is why I think that the best thing to do it is to leave this thing here, because Cesc belongs to Arsenal.

“I always think: do not do what you do not want them to do to you. The best thing to do now it is to kill this matter now and that’s it.”

After recently renewing his contract at FC Barcelona, Jeffren Suarez (22) has declared his intentions for his future at the club, “I think I can stand up because I trust myself, my body and my abilities. I see myself competing since I was discharged (from injury). I think in Abu Dhabi I took my chance and all I want and desire is to compete with the players who are here.”

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday the Venezuala-born player confirmed his happiness at signing his new contract with the club saying, “It was one of my dreams and I made it. I feel like an elite athlete and even more a first-team player. It is true that I had several offers but I do not care about the money. I’m in the best club in the world and even if you don’t get too many minutes, you learn a lot surrounded by so many great players. Guardiola relies heavily on the quarry (youth players) and that is a motivation. I want to go ahead and wait for my opportunity.”

Looking ahead to Barca’s trip to Atletico Madrid at the weekend, the attacking midfielder insisted he was willing to play at right-back if asked to do so, “I played there against Cultural (Leonessa) and although it cost me a little because I got tired very quickly and I coast in the field, I think I learned to settle. If the manager puts me there again, I will do my best…We do have many casualties, but we will be able to address them and we will succeed. I think if we win, it would give a severe blow to teams because that are hoping that we lose.”

The young striker is determined to keep fighting for a regular place in the team and admits that the manager is helping to keep up his morale: “Guardiola’s words give me strength to carry on believing in myself.”

In an exclusive interview with Barça TV and FC Barcelona official website, Bojan discusses his situation in the team.

Q. Other teams may think that next weekend is a good opportunity to cut Barça’s lead.

“I don’t know how Real Madrid will approach their match against Xerez. What I do know is that we are in good shape and I’m convinced we can win in the Calderon. What’s really important is that we play well. The more united we are the better we can face up to anything.”

Q. Guardiola always says that the referees don’t exist. Is it like that’

“It’s obvious that winning the three points is down to us. We know that the referees won’t help us.”

Q. When you’ve played you have produced some good performances. Sporting and Tenerife are good examples. Do you need more minutes of football?

“Obviously the more you play the more you can offer as you gain confidence in yourself. I’ve always said that you need to adapt to the situation you find yourself in and keep on working to take all the chances the boss gives you and try to perform at your best.”

Q. Whenever Guardiola has been asked about you he says that you’re an extraordinary player with a lot of talent. So why don’t you play more?

“What’s important is that he says that I’m an important player for the team and that he values my abilities. That’s what gives me strength to remain positive and keep on training in the hope of playing more. There are a lot of players and I have to work hard.”

Q. Being knocked out of the Cup is tough on players like you who don’t play so much.

“When you get knocked out of a competition there’s less playing time especially for those players who play less anyway. But we’re still alive in two competitions that involve a lot of matches in which we can all take part.”

Q. One of the things that people like about you is your perpetual smile. Does this come from some inner happiness?

“I’m very happy here. I’m part of the best club in the world. I’m surrounded by people I love and that is very important. That’s what really makes me happy. Everything else will come with hard work.”

Q. The Barça style is recognized around the world. And doing this with a majority of home-grown players deserves even more credit. To what extent is it important for a club to look after the youth policy?

“It’s very important. All the success of last year was achieved with half the players coming up through the youth ranks. There are more and more quality players coming through and that’s fundamental for a great club like Barça.”

Q. So Barça’s youth policy is an example for other clubs?

“It’s not only an example for the lads that are in the Barça youth teams but also for those youngsters who see that they have more possibilities here, despite the competition, of becoming good players and maybe playing in the first team.”

Q. Jonathan Dos Santos knows you well. What do you think about him?

“He’s an excellent player. He’s got infinite qualities to play for Barça and he’s shown that in the games he’s played up to now. He’s also a great lad and if he’s patient he’s definitely got a place here.”

Q. Your father was also a professional footballer. Is that an advantage?

“We talk quite a lot about football, especially the things that affect me. I think I’m very lucky to have someone in the family who’s an expert in football.”

Q. What’s your best goal?

“The one in the Spanish Cup final.”

Q. And the most awkward defender you’ve played against?

“Aitor Ocio. I’ve played against him several times and he made life very difficult for me.”

Q. Your best memory?

“Any moment of any of the titles we’ve won. They were all wonderful experiences.”

Q. A wish for the future?

“To win the league and the Champions League this season.”

Q. Would you like to play a final in the Bernabéu?

“It would be a great match but we have to take it a step at a time. There’s no doubt that we would love to play the final in the Bernabéu, but I still have lots of work to do.”

Q. You’re sometimes seen in the Palau. Do you like basketball?

“It’s a sport I like a lot. I always knew that I wanted to dedicate myself to football, not basketball, but I really enjoy watching it and especially following what happens to Regal Barça.”

Q. When you were still at school and you were playing in the first team, what did your classmates say to you?

“Your classmates ask you about everything. What’s this player or the other like as a person? I would do the same.”

Q. Have you got used to life as a footballer?

“It’s complicated but you get used to it. In fact since I signed for Barça I’ve given up on holidays. If you want to be in a club like this one you have to give up many things.”

Q. Are you good friends with Piqué?

“We’ve known each other for a long time. We play together in the under-21s and we were together in the youth teams. We’ve been close for years.”

Real Madrid attacking midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart told a press conference on Wednesday that he hopes to see Barcelona lose to Atletico Madrid on Sunday. Van Der Vaart is aware that there are only a handful of games the leading teams in La Liga could stumble in, and he thinks that Barcelona’s game against Atletico Madrid this Sunday is one of these few games!

Barcelona are 5 points ahead of Real Madrid; and they are unbeaten so far this season. Van Der Vaart is thus hopeful to see Atletico be the first team to beat Barcelona in La Liga this season.

“It will be very important for Atletico to win the match,” he explained. “But first we have to win against Xerez in a complicated game, and when we do I will become a fan of Atletico Madrid.”

“We know that Barcelona is not going to drop many points and that they play at a very good level. This week they are in Madrid though and I have great faith in Atletico.”

“I think that they will beat Barcelona.”
