Bayern Munich legend Stefan Effenberg believes that Franck Ribery will end up at Real Madrid sooner rather than later.

Ribery has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu all summer, but he appears to be resigned to staying in Munich for at least another season.

However, according to Effenberg, it is only a matter of time before Ribery ends up in Madrid. Speaking to Munich paper TZ, he said, "I believe it will happen, but nobody knows when.

"Nevertheless, a player should be sincere with his club, and not sign contracts that he does not intent to fulfil.

"I imagine that in this case money is a big factor, and such high figures play with your head."

Effenberg then suggested that the constant speculation had affected Ribery's performances, continuing, "He did not play at his best at the end of last season.

"He was indisciplined. He got sent off.

"He no longer had the enthusiasm that we were used to. He had probably already left in his mind.

"He thought that Bayern would not win the Champions League in the near future. But I hope he recovers his form soon.

"Without him, the team is not as strong, and it shows."
