Official: Rijkaard gets former Barca starlet Dos Santos for Galatasaray

Galatasaray have officially confirmed their capture of former Tottenham Hotspur forward and Mexican international Giovani Dos Santos Ramírez (20). The youngster will move on a loan deal that lasts untill the end of the current season.

The Mexican striker was on the sidelines at Tottenham Hotspur and under Frank Rijkaard he hopes to blossom. The 20 year old international made the move from Barcelona to London in 2008, but he failed to establish himself at Tottenham. Last year he even went to Ipswich Town on loan.

Giovani dos Santos joined the Barcelona youth academy in 2002. he came through the Barcelona youth ranks and joined the first team squad in the summer of 2007. Dos Santos time in Barcelona seemed destined to follow Ronaldinho’s steps, but he never made it to the first eleven. After 28 games for the Catalan club, also led by Rijkaard, he decided to move to Tottenham Hotspurs. In the English capital, he played a total of only seven official league games since the summer of 2008.

The Mexican, is after Lucas Neill and Everton’s Jô the third winter purchase for the Turkish club. The Cim Bom(Galatasaray) are currently placed second in the Turkish league, one point behind the leaders Fenerbahçe. The team from Istanbul is also still active in the Europa League and will meet Atletico Madrid in the next round.

La Liga fixture reform for 2010/11

The Board of Directors of the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) today signed a coordination agreement with the Football League (LFP) which provides for the possibility that league games in the First Division could take place on Monday and Friday from next season onwards.

This has been agreed by the members of the assembly of football’s governing body. The agreement will be ratified next week and the next measure will come into force.

A spokesperson from the board of the RFEF, Jorge Carretero said that, these changes will begin to take effect from the 2010/2011 season and will run till 2014, it includes one of the clauses that this option will not be used during the weeks that have friendlies or internatonal fixtures (including U-21’s).
