Manchester United: potential transfer list

It looks like it might be a reasonable season for Manchester United. Premier League, Carling Cup and World Club Championship in the bag already and the Champions League final awaits.

But their rivals will spend this summer and manager Sir Alex Ferguson will not want the team to stand still as others progress. He has said he doesn't expect to spend big this summer, but has said that before and done just that.

Diego Lopez
With Edwin van der Sar entering his last season as United's goalkeeper, neither Ben Foster (whose rise to the England squad is more indicative of a lack of competition than true quality), nor Tomasz Kuszczak are ready to take the No 1 jersey. Hence United's apparent interest in Villareal keeper Diego Lopez. The man himself is calm over the rumours, perhaps worried more by the apparent bid from Tottenham.

Philip Lahm
With Gary Neville looking like injury may have got the better of him (and perhaps Wes Brown too) and John O'Shea remaining a better bet as back-up across the defence, United may feel a little too reliant on the teenage Rafael da Silva. While hugely promising, the youngster perhaps still lacks the physical presence for a whole season. An experienced candidate could therefore be Philip Lahm, currently at Bayern Munich. Capable on both flanks, the German international may be available for around £10m.

Dodo
With Rio Ferdinand, Nemanja Vidic, Jonny Evans, as well as Brown and O'Shea, the last thing United may need is another centre-half. But of those, perhaps only Evans will be around in four years time and Ferguson is rumoured to be close to a deal for the 17-year-old Brazilian Dodo, currently at Corinthians, though he is yet to make his first team debut. He's likened to Ferdinand (pictured), though mostly by people who haven't seen him play...

Mamadou Sakho
The alternative to Dodo could be Mamadou Sakho, currently at Paris St Germain. The French club's youngest captain, at 17, is thought to be attracting the attention of Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea, as well as United. Arsene Wenger's French connections may sway the youngster.

Miguel Veloso
Ferguson may grow tired of Owen Hargreaves' injury problems and look for someone to provide substance in midfield. The lately-beloved Darren Fletcher harries and Michael Carrick hovers, but while there is plenty of energy in midfield, there is little muscle. Defender-cum midfielder Miguel Veloso (Sporting Lisbon) has long been on the radar of English clubs, so United may face competition.

Douglas Costa
Strange to report for a club on the cusp of such rewards, but United have lacked goals from midfield this season. Scholes is nearing the end, Anderson is still to score for the side and Fletcher, Carrick, Giggs et al are not prolific. Hence Ferguson is reported to be 'closing in' on Douglas Costa ('the new Ronaldinho'), an 18-year-old at Gremio getting attention from most of Europe's big clubs and the object of a spurned £8m bid from Villareal.

Antonio Valencia
Steve Bruce admits that it is 'inevitable' that his winger will leave Wigan, and all that remains is who will buy the £20m man, supposedly attracting attention from Real Madrid and Bayern Munich, as well as United

Aaron Lennon
Speculation on United buying a winger centres on Nani's disappointing season and the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo leaving for Real Madrid. To that end, Tottenham's Aaron Lennon (potentially a target for Liverpool) has been mooted as a £20m purchase, not least after his demolition of Patrice Evra in the Carling Cup final.

Carlos Tevez
The assumption seems to be that Tevez will leave United when his loan period is up. But he's putting in a heck of a case to stay, even if his agents are showing as much energy off the field as he does on it.

Karim Benzema
Ferguson has gone on record with his admiration of Benzema, and the £40m-rated French prodigy would be another big buy for the future, if Tevez goes. Like Tevez, he may not appreciate the squad approach, and may also prefer to stay put in Lyon or sign for a Spanish club.

Franck Ribery
Assumptions on Ronaldo's future vary wildly, day by day, but United were reported to have made a £62.5m bid for Bayern's French midfielder who would slot in on the left of any side in the world. The 'bid' was reported as a marquee name to replace Ronaldo, but the winger has been doing a pretty effective job at the head of the attack. There'd be room for both, finances allowing.

Kaka
But if Ronaldo does go, fans would like a big name. Rumours of a bid for Kaka were rebuffed but the Brazilian former World Player of the Year is believed to be available for the right high price. Just because Manchester City didn't tempt him, that doesn't mean that their neighbours wouldn't.

#27169 RedDevil87, насколько мне известно...Dodo уже практически подписан...и ваще этот трансфер если и состоится то этот игрок будет приобретён с прицелом на будущее...что касается остальных кандидатов...то на мой взгляд возможен переход Benzema, в случае если Tevez всё таки покинет клуб...вероятость остальных трансферов мала...а если ещё брать во внимание тот факт что Роналдо публично заявил что желает остаться на Олд Трэффорд и на следующий сезон...то вероятность перехода таких игроков как Kaka, Aaron Lennon, Antonia Valencia и Franck Ribery практически равна нулю...
